Hi J,

This product should be applied with a two-coat coverage and will be strong enough to handle regular foot traffic just fine without the need for an additional top coat. Is there a reason you would be concerned that you would need it? Are you expecting lots and lots of food traffic?

Hi J,

Thank you for your interest in Behr Premium Porch & Patio Floor Paint. Our Porch & Patio Floor Paint is a top coat. No other top coat is needed, unless you want a high-gloss finish which can be accomplished by using our Behr Premium Wet-Look Sealer. This product can also be used on properly prepared interior and exterior surfaces such as porches, wood and concrete floors, patios, decks, siding, trellises and concrete basement floors. For your project, we highly recommend priming with Behr Premium Plus NO. 75 All-In-One Primer & Sealer.

If you have the high gloss version of the floor paint you shouldn't need a top coat as it should be easy enough to keep clean. The satin sheen doesn't really require it but it doesn't make it a bit more work to keep it mopped than as a poly'd floor. If you do poly over it, make sure it's water based floor poly.

Hello James!

Epoxy is one of the most durable floor coatings and will not accept new coats of water-based floor paint.

Prep would include a diamond-blade etcher, from Tool Rental, to remove the existing coating.

Once removed and cleaned, use Behr Primer #436 followed by Behr Porch and Floor Paint.

ALTERNATIVES:
1) Recoat with 2-Part Epoxy Floor Coating; or
2) 1-Part Epoxy preceded by Behr Bonding Primer.

Hi James,

Thank you for your interest our Behr Premium Porch & Patio Floor Paint. This product can be applied over your existing epoxy coating as long as it is not an oil based epoxy. All surfaces should be clean, sound, dry and free of any dirt oil and grease. Ensure there is no loose or peeling paint. Scuff sand any glossy surfaces to aid in adhesion. Apply Behr Premium Porch & Patio Floor Paint using a high quality 3/8" - 1/2" nap roller, nylon/polyester brush or airless sprayer. A second coat may be needed to achieve complete hide and coverage. Please refer to the product label for detailed preparation and application instructions.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your interest in our Behr Premium Porch & Patio Floor Paint. The Porch & Patio Floor Paint is optimized to be used with our Behr Premium Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer NO. 880. We are uncertain about the compatibility of our Porch & Patio Floor Paint with other manufacturer's primers. Please refer to the manufacturer's label or other material information. We highly recommend using Behr branded topcoats and primers together for best results.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your interest in our Behr Premium Porch & Patio Floor Paint. Our Porch & Patio Floor Paint is designed for use on properly prepared concrete and wood decks. We are not completely certain on your meaning for the term "Salt Treated". If you are referring to the deck exposure to ocean water, you must thoroughly clean then prime for proper coating adhesion. The recommended primer for a wood deck is Behr Premium Plus NO. 436 Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer. The recommended primer for a concrete deck is Behr Premium NO. 880 Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer. Please refer to the product label for proper preparation and application instructions. If you are referring to a salt type chemical treatment, please consult with the manufacturer of the treatment if it can be top-coated.

Question

Can this paint be applied over Behr Deckover? Does the product allow concrete porch to be more easily cleaned?

Asked by
Tracie

I applied Behr Deckover to my concrete porch, I allowed the dogs access to the porch 4 days after application. I am having an awful time keeping the porch clean, today I rented a pressure washer and even that would not completely remove the muddy pawprints, it is as if they have stained the Deckover. Truly disappointing. My husband suggested we apply a sealer but according to Behr technical support a sealer cannot be applied over Deckover. So basically my newly painted porch looks as bad as it did prior to painting. I want to know if there is a product that will make my porch resist stains and make it easier to clean up muddy pawprints.

Hi Tracie,

Thank you for your interest in our Behr Premium Porch and Patio Floor Paint. We are sorry you are having trouble with the Behr Premium DeckOver. You may use this product as a topcoat to Behr Premium DeckOver. This coating is designed to provide a long-lasting durable finish that will protect against scuffing, fading, cracking and peeling. If the surface of the Behr Premium Porch and Patio Floor Paint does get dirty, you can use the Behr Premium NO. 990 Concrete & Masonry Degreaser & Cleaner. Simply dilute NO. 990 as instructed on the product label and use as a general cleaner.
