Customer questions and answers for
Gardner 4.75-Gal. Sta Kool 7-Year Ultra White Elastomeric Roof Coating

STA-KOOL 770 Ultra White Elastomeric Roof Coating is a tough, highly flexible, rubberized roof coating. This high-performance, 7-year warranted elastomeric roof coating resists cracking and peeling. The coating also provides a highly protective barrier which reflects the sun’s heat and destructive UV rays. This helps to cool roof surfaces and reduce interior temperatures. This product is an “investment” which can actually pay for itself in savings on cooling costs. Covers approx 50-75 sq. ft. per gal. depending on porosity of the surface.

Like everything else, it depends. This stuff is a paint, not a filler. So, if you get the old mortar out and fill the space with grout or new mortar, then provide a drip lip so the water doesn't run down the side and enter somewhere else, this will seal the mortar very nicely.

The problem I see is that this comes in a five gallon bucket. You'll probably use less than a quart.

This is an exceptionally thick elastomeric paint, not a filler. You have to first get the hole plugged up and then this paint will protect the fill material. It sounds like the contractor took the easy way out and just covered up the hole without fixing it first.

Ask around your area what are good materials to fill the problem area and get the leak taken care of first. This will protect the repair and put an extra layer of leak prevention over the top. I went to a roofing supply shop and talked to the guy at the counter about a problem area. They sold me a gallon bucket of silicon putty which plugged the hole, then after that set up, I painted the top of it with this product (two coats) and haven't had any problem there since.

I am not sure that this product was meant to be painted over the top of, as to whether it would hold paint or not I have not tested it. I can not remember actually reading anything about the product saying anything about painting on it. Good question Katy, this may be something I try to do myself like the product on a small piece of material scrap and letting it dry out a day or two, then take some paint and paint over the product and let it sit out in the weather for a while, especially when and after it rains and also temperature changes with heat and cold.

You can paint over this and it will bond quite well, however the problem is that most paints that one would use as a match won't survive the hot sun day after day; they're just not designed for that. Additionally, this paint will expand and contract with the weather, that may loosen the paint on top such that it flakes off. Go to a paint expert and talk to them about the product and ask them for a color matched solution to minimize this problem over time. It might also be a good idea to give the manufacturer a call to discuss it. The folks are nice and will help you out with some suggestions.

it will be fine in cold winters, just make sure you apply it while not in a cold winter. I would apply it before cold weather starts up say like when around 70 to 80 degrees and then it would be ok. Do not wait until it is too cold then apply because it would not spread good on roof and would not cure out right.

I myself have never tried to spray it on with a paint sprayer, although the thickness of it spreads like paint and with the right nozzle, it might be done. What I wouldnt do though is to try and thin it down with anything in order to make it spray if the consistency lets say was too thick. This product goes on good with a roller of middle nap, and when put on, broom your surface off real good. This stuff sticks real good and is easy to apply this way. I covered a large area in a short amount of time with a roller and it worked real well so I will stick to putting it on in this manner, and when youre done, just throw the used roller away and start with a new roller the next day if need be. Just a note, use a roller handle with an extension on it and you can adjust your length of travel with ease and it will make it even easier.

Yes it is. Actually, the product only thickens as it dries and expands. However, that being said, I strongly suggest rolling it on with a 1" to 1 1/4" pile paint roller. The sprayer won't apply as thick as the roller would. A regular roller will not apply as thick either.

As long as the roof is metal, you can apply this product to keep the inside cool. Make sure that it is clean and rust free. It is highly recommended that you power wash before applying this product.

I wouldn't use this product for that. It's designed for porous surfaces that it can bite into for adhesion. On a slick car roof, it might just peel off in the wind as you drive down the road. To keep your van cool, look into white auto paint on the outside and spray foam on the inside to insulate you from the sun.

if you have a trailer that has an aluminum roof you most definately can use this on it. This is where this product will shine for you very well is on any metal roof. Being this product is white and sta kool is white for a reason. The reason is when the product has been applied, the white color reflects sun rays back up and away from the roof, helping in transferring heat off the roof and lowering your cooling bills, not to mention acting also as a very good sealant from any and all types of weather.

have not seen kool seal brand in black, or other elastometric type sealers in anything but white i think, but that does not mean they do not exist. Try a web search for black elastometric roof coat and see what you get. The kool seal works good and because of the white color, the word Kool must be where the name comes from, because the white reflects off the heat and damaging uv rays to a roof.

The coverage rate is 50 - 75 square feet per gallon depending on the roughness of the surface. It comes in white only, but can be tinted. Tinting voids the warranty. This coating is a roof coating. So long as the plywood subfloor will not pond water, this coating can probably be used although I do not have enough details to be sure.

minimum order here you would need at least two of these 5 gallon buckets, because I would put on one coat, and let it set 24 hours minimum and then come back with a second coat for good coverage. Put one coat on one weekend, then come back the next weekend and add another. Just remember to broom sweep the roof again to get all debris off or if you have hand held blower, use that to blow the roof off clean and will clean a roof very quick doing it that way.

I would start by ordering 4 of these buckets and go with that. If you decide you want it thicker, just go back later and you can always purchase a 5th bucket if need be. This stuff really easy to apply using a medium nap roller on an extension pole made for rolling paint. Also it mixes just like paint too. Wear old clothes because this product sticks well to your clothes also. What i did is an old trick, I wore old clothes and used a little vaseline on my bare arms and wore gloves and if some spilled on your arms, with the vaseline film on them this wipes loose from your arms pretty good.

Do not really know what your roof type is as it makes a lot of difference in an answer.
You say for an RV, if so, it may be a metallic roof, if it is, is it badly weathered?
For an RV metallic roof that is not weathered you should use a coating, that is specifically for that roof and an RV dealership may be the only ones that handle it.
If it is badly weathered, you would probably be better off using "Henrys White Roofing Sealant", which is a water based sealant.
If it has a lot cracking, you may have to use the fabric reinforcing mesh that "Henrys" sells for it, which would be in the same department
If it is a shingle roof, and a rolled asphalt then "STA COOL" would work well, it could take 2 coatings to completely seal all voids.
Most leaks come from around the roof vents, etc. and may require extra patching before coating the roof.
