Hi, this is Sheree from GE and I will be glad to assist you with your questions. The Hotpoint 1.5 cu. ft. over-the-range microwave in white model # RVM1535DMWW mounts directly to the back wall with a mounting bracket that comes with the microwave. It also must have a cabinet mounted above it for the top of the microwave to screw into for support. You can see the complete installation instructions by clicking on the "More Info" listed directly under the picture of the microwave on the Home Depot website. This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with you with your question on the Hotpoint 1.5 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave model # RVM1535DMWW.
Yes, this model will certainly be a comparable replacement. The microwave can be installed as an internal venting model. The Recirculating Charcoal Filter Kit is JX81J.
There are other current model microwaves that will fit into a 30" wide installation space too. The model numbers will begin with the letters "CVM", "PVM", "PNM", "JVM1", "JVM2", or "JNM". None of the installation kits are totally interchangeable.
There have been design and cosmetic changes over the years. You must use the new mounting system and hardware that comes with the specific microwave. There are vent duct, cord cut-out location and mounting screw location changes for these models.

The microwave comes ready to vent out the top to the exterior. Yes, if needed it can be vented internally as a recirculating model.
The blower must be turned before installing ad then the charcoal filter is added. Recirculating charcoal filter kit JX81J is required for model RVM1635DMWW.
