Hello dustyroads and thank you for your question.

The TrafficMaster Allure Corfu Resilient Vinyl Plank Flooring is not meant to be a water proofing material or a solution for moisture. Excessive moisture in the subfloor can cause mold, mildew, and other moisture related issues. Under these circumstances, the concrete needs to be treated with a floor sealer that seals the concrete under the 8 lbs. pressure or a moisture/vapor barrier (6 mil poly) should be installed. Page 2 of the Allure Plank and Tile Installation Instructions discusses tests that should be performed before installation over a concrete subfloor: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pd....

Additionally, all subfloors must be sound, solid, and have little flexibility (tolerance is 3/16” over 8’).

Best wishes on your project.

I think that the manufacturer suggests that it is a good product for basement applications without mention of any barriers. However, I have not used it in a basement. Living in Illinois, i have to run a dehumidifier to combat the dampness anyway. It seems like a barrier would be unneccessary here, pretty sure that the flooring would not be harmed. I would not know about the possibility of mold or mildew growing beneath.

Hello Carol and thank you for your question.

You should not use a steam mop to clean your TrafficMaster Allure 12 in. x 36 in. Corfu Resilient Vinyl Plank Flooring. Steam, and particularly the heat from the steam mop, will affect the adhesive grip strips.

Your TrafficMaster allure floor has been designed to be very easy to maintain. Dust mop or vacuum your floor at least twice a week. Do not use a household dust cleaner of any kind as this may cause the floor to become slick or damage the finish. Simply sweep the floor as often as needed.

Food spills should be cleaned up as rapidly as possible with a quality liquid vinyl cleaner. Make sure the cleaner you choose is an all-purpose liquid cleaner that is NON-ABRASIVE.

Allure One Step cleaner (in gloss or satin finish) is recommended when you have experienced some loss of the original appearance over time.

Never wax this vinyl floor.

There are additional care and maintenance instructions in the owners manual found here: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pd....

Best wishes with your project.

you can buy a transition piece that will come close to matching your hardwood floor in color, that will also accommodate small variances in height.

i used a metal strip, that can be cut to fit. it has plastic "plugs" that slide into a groove on the back of the transition piece that will fit into holes you will have to drill in the floor. They have a painted matte finish, i believe.

They make transition strips out of metal and wood that will cover the difference between the two surfaces. We used one type between the living room rug and new vinyl flooring and another type between the marble entryway and the vinyl flooring because they each were different heights.

The transitions are nailed down.

I did buy two or three metal transitions to bring home and lay down near the area to see which one seemed to fit best. Whatever I didn't use I returned to the store for a refund (still wrapped up & un-opened).

Hope that helps.

The flooring will cover small imperfections, like glue residue. However is not rigid enough to hold its shape on a soft surface, such as carpet pile. My advice, is to pull up the carpet first. You can read about the thickness and installation instructions online. The old nails of my kitchen subfloor are beginning to come up and can be seen as a small bump from certain angles. I wish now, that I had replaced the obviously loose ones with screws before the installation. Having said all that, I am still very pleased with the durability and ease of cleanup. I think I watched an installation tutorial before I made the purchase.

In the winter it can get to freezing & in the summer it can get hot. Will that be an issue with this flooring i.e. extreme temperature changes?

Yes! It works well in mobile homes. I found that the spaces between subfloor panels in my mobile home were a consideration for which direction i laid the planks but it works very well.
I have had this floor by my front door over a year now and also put it in the bedroom of my mobile home recently.
