i bought this cooler a month ago. And it doesn't keep the temp where you set it at.. I set mine at 35 degrees and the cooler says it reading at 38 degrees. but i felt that the soda and beers didn't feel that cold, so we put in our own digital thermometer in, and it was reading 47 degrees. so you can't go by the thermometer in the cooler it is way off. so for everyone claiming it is reading at around 38 degrees, you should put your own thermometer in it. for me 400.00 is a lot of money so i took it back to home depot. I went to Lowes and bought the Frigidaire 4.6 Cu. Ft. Beverage cooler. it is a little smaller but it works great and keeps the right temp. before you buy this unit read the reviews. And then read the reviews for the Frigidaire. I would not buy this unit . its not to loud..

We have this now in our dining room and plan to build cabinetry around it. When there is no tv or music playing you can hear it, but with the tv on you can't really hear it. I found that for the money this was the best product I could find. We have had it for 2 weeks now and have been very happy with it.

We have the unit under a counter in the kitchen (so it's basically enclosed) but it seems very quiet.

answer 10
Hi J, I’m Blake from Home Depot’s Online community. This beverage cooler would be great in your dining room. Be aware that the cooling mechanism in this unit is compressor based and will make some noise as it cycles on and off. Very high-end beverage coolers use thermoelectric cooling devices which are silent while in use however the difference in price is significant.

I hope this helps!

answer 11
This product is designed for the type of installation you are describing. Having said that the unit will make some noise while the compressor is operating. In general the noise generated would be considered within an acceptable level.

Question

Can wine and beverage cooler be used as a refrigerator?

We need something in our office to keep lunches and creamer cold. There are 3 of us. We were going to buy a compact refrigerator, but felt that the freezer was a waste of space. This unit is the same size, but has much more refrigeration space.

answer 7
The wine and beverage coolers are not designed to operate in the same temperature range as a refrigerator, and should not be used to store perishable items.
It would be recommended to use a compact refrigerator for the purpose you are describing.

answer 3
you will probably run into some problems whith cooling during summer because of the extreme heat. As it is not a refrigorator just a cooler you will probably be looking at warm beverages and/or over working the compressor.

Hi Tarheel,

I reached out to the Magic Chef team and this is what they had to say-

For this model the coldest setting possible is 35F but the owner's manual indicates that the actual temperature can fluctuate by + or - 5 F. The evaporator which is the component that generates the cold air inside the unit is located at the rear of the inner compartment. Beverages located at the rear of the unit will likely be colder that the beverages located toward the front.
- Bob.

Hope this was helpful.
