110 VOLT. THIS IS A REALLY NICE CHEST FREEZER FOR THE PRICE. IT RUNS VERY LITTLE AND ESTIMATED ELECTRIC USE IS $30 PER YR. I WOULD BELIEVE THIS AS IT RUNS VERY LITTLE AFTER THE FIRST DAY OR TWO. WE ALWAYS GET A NONDEFROST MODEL AS IT DOESN'T MESS WITH THE TASTE OF THE STORED FOOD LIKE AN AUTODEFROST MODEL DOES. MANUAL DEFROSTING IS VERY VERY RARELY DONE. SEE MY REVIEW-IT SHOULD BE POSTED SHORTLY.

Hello Nick,

This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with your question on the GE 7.0 cu. ft. Chest Freezer model # FCM7SUWW.

The chest freezer should always be plugged into its own individual electrical outlet (115 volt, 60 hertz, single phase AC). It should be on a dedicated circuit. This is recommended for best performance and to prevent overloading house wiring circuits. It could cause a possible fire hazard from overheating wires. The chest freezer requires a 15 amp fuse/breaker. No larger size is necessary.

I hope this helps.

Question

How long does it take for the freezer chest to get to 0(zero) degrees after initial setup?

I've had mine setup and plugged in for about 6 days and my chest is still not frozen! I put frozen food into my freezer chest 48 hours after setup and it seems like my food is defrosting. I've started with level 4 as instructions stated, but after 24 hours it wasn't cold enough, so we moved it level 5 & waited 24 hours, then level 6 after another 24 hours and right now we are to the max level 7! My food is defrosting instead of getting frozen! We made sure that the lid is securely closed with nothing blocking the seal. Please help!

Thanks for the answers! I called Home Depot and they sent out a GE tech to take a look. Come to find out the factory forgot to hook up the compressor! Duh! I guess that would really help in getting the freezer working, huh? Lol. Anyways, we are up and running! And at the level 4 setting, the freezer is registering at minus 10 degrees according to a freezer thermometer we bought.

Hello,

This is Donna with GE and I will happy to help you with your question on the GE 7.0 cu. ft. Chest Freezer model # FCM7SUWW.

The freezer should be cool by now. I would recommmend to contact warranty service to have a service technician evaluate and diagnose any issues.

Upon initial installation, or when the settings on the temperature controls are changed, it usually takes 24 hours to reach the proper temperature. If the freezer is less than two-thirds full, or the freezer is opened frequently, it may take longer than 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize.

To ensure that the freezer reaches a stable temperature within 24 hours:
Fill it 2/3 full with food, or anything else that will take up space and absorb cold (such as plastic jugs filled 2/3 with water).
Limit door openings during the 24-hour period.

The maximum amount of food your freezer is designed to freeze at one time is approximately
3 pounds (1.5 kg) per cubic foot of freezer capacity. In normal position, your freezer’s temperature
control will maintain sufficiently low temperatures in the freezer to freeze recommended quantities
of food.

It is best to let a freezer sit unplugged for a few days after being transported to let the refrigerant and the oil settle. Then when you do plug it in, put in a few gallon jugs of water so the thermostat can regulate the temperature properly. Give it another day and a half and you should be fully operational. I'm not a professional, just personal experience.

Mine is very quiet, I only hear a "click" when the motor comes on. I set mine to 5, and although it didn't feel that cold when I stuck my hand in, it keeps everything frozen solid.
Try putting some water in a plastic container and see if it freezes, it probably will have a layer of ice on it in an hour or 2.

I hooked a KILL-A-WATT meter from start-up to the freezer located in my basement which is around 65 degrees. My electric rate net which includes all taxes and fees is $.1312 per killawatt and my yearly killawatt usage is averaging 230 which means my usage is $30.00 per year. And my freezer is only 1/4 filled and the temp selector is at 3 and the internal temp does not go above 0 degrees.

The EnergyGuide label on the freezer says $30/year. (277KWH @ 10.65¢ per KWH) This appears to be about average for this "class" of freezer.

Naturally, the real cost will vary with multiple factors. (How cold you set the thermostat, How much you pay for electricity, Whether you live in a warm or cold weather climate, etc. etc.)

Hi, This is Kim with GE. thank you for your interest in our GE 7.0 Cu. Ft. Manual Defrost Chest Freezer, model number FCM7SUWW.
There are many factors that contribute to the volume of food that your freezer will hold including the physical size and shape of each item. In general, a freezer will hold 30 to 35 pounds per Cubic Foot.

The maximum amount of food that your freezer can freeze at one time is 3 pounds per Cubic Foot. After allowing 24 hours for that to freeze, you can then add another 3 pounds per Cubic Foot.

Example: In a 10 Cubic Foot Freezer, you can put 30 pounds of room temperature food without risking spoilage.

I hope this helps. If other questions come up, please let us know. Thank you for buying GE.

answer 2
Short answer? Approx. 375 pounds.
Long answer? It depends. (see below for details)
-----------------------------------------
8 pounds of ground beef will occupy (approx.) 1 gallon of volume***
7 cu-ft = 52 gallons (approx.)
52 x 8 = 416 pounds (packed to the top)

But let us assume that you have packing material taking up some of this space, so let's reduce by 10%.
That comes out to around 375 pounds.

Unprocessed meat, like a whole turkey, will naturally take up more volume (read: weigh less) than something like ground beef. So your results may vary depending on what you're packing into your freezer.

*** I found this number on some website, but cannot verify its accuracy. Although it sounds about right if I were to make an educated guess...

I just measured the unit and the outer dimensions are:
33" High
37" Wide
22" Deep

You will need to keep the unit an inch or two away from the back wall to give clearance for both the compressor and for the lid hinge to open and close.

As far as I know freezers cannot be layed on their sides for any period of time. You would risk messing it up.

Hello Mark,

This is Donna with GE and I I will be happy to help you with your question on the GE 7.0 cu. ft. Chest Freezer model # FCM7SUWW.

Please use the following steps when relocating an upright or chest freezer:

1. Disconnect the power cord from the wall receptacle.
2. Remove the food, defrost and clean the freezer.
3. Use blankets to protect the freezer finish from scratches.
4. Place the freezer on its side for moving only if you have no other choice.
5. When transporting a freezer, keep it in an upright position. If transporting it in an upright position is not possible, lay it down on the compressor side of the unit being careful to secure the door preventing it from opening.
6. When the freezer is installed in new location, and if it has been transported on its side, set it right side up and allow the freezer to sit for the same amount of time that it was on its side. Do not plug the unit into the electrical receptacle without allowing this settling time. The unit can be damaged if it is plugged in prematurely.
7. If the unit was transported in an upright position there is no waiting time required.

I hope this helps!

Depends. Home depot often has free shipping on appliances over $50...just depends on the sale at the time you purchase this. If your shipping is free, the cost to have it delivered vs picking it up in the store are the same.
