Hello Joe,

This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with your quesiton on the GE chest freezer model FCM7SUWW.

To obtain efficient operation, a freezer should be installed properly. Follow these guidelines:
Place the freezer where the surrounding temperatures will not exceed 110 degrees F. or fall below 0 degrees F.

* Position the freezer in a dry, well ventilated room. Do not install it in a closet.
* Be sure to install the freezer on a floor strong enough to support it fully loaded.
* Place it solidly on the floor. If the floor is uneven, use shims to level the freezer.
* Allow for a 3" air clearance on each side, and a 1" air clearance in the rear of the freezer.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry on the chest freezer model FCM7SUWW. My name is Donna and I will be happy to help.

Yes, this is a manual defrost model. To have your freezer operate most efficiently,
do not permit more than 1/2 ″ (13 mm) of frost to accumulate on the shelves.

For Complete Defrosting:
1 Turn the temperature control to the OFF position and unplug the freezer.
2. Remove all food and place it in corrugated boxes, insulated bags, picnic coolers, etc. Use towels and newspapers for insulation as needed.
3. With the door/lid open, use pans of hot water to speed loosening of frost. Remove large pieces before they melt. Chest models have a defrost water drain at the front.
Note: Water may drip from the back lange of the lid cover during defrosting. This is normal. Ice builds up in the lid insulation when the lid is open for adding or removing food, and melts during
the defrosting operation.
4. Sponge excess water from the bottom of the freezer as it collects to prevent overflowing.
5. After defrosting, clean the inside of the freezer (see Care and Cleaning).
6. Replace the drain plug inside the cabinet and the cap on the defrost drain. Fold over and dry the gasket on the hinge side of the lid.
7. Plug in the freezer. Return the temperature control to its previous position and return food to the freezer.

I hope this is helpful!

Hello Mistie,

This is Donna with GE and will be happy to help you with your quesiton on the GE 7.0 cu. ft. Chest Freezer model # FCM7SUWW.

GE strongly recommends that an extension cord not be used with a freezer or refrigerator due to the potential safety hazards under certain conditions. However, if an extension cord is used, it is absolutely necessary that it be a UL® listed 3-wire grounding appliance extension cord, and that the current carry rating of the cord be a minimum of 15 amperes.

I hope this helps!

answer 2
Hello,

This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with your question on the moving the GE chest freezer.

GE would not recommend to use a dolly. Please use the following steps when relocating an upright or chest freezer:

1. Disconnect the power cord from the wall receptacle.
2. Remove the food, defrost and clean the freezer.
3. Use blankets to protect the freezer finish from scratches.
4. Place the freezer on its side for moving only if you have no other choice.
5. When transporting a freezer, keep it in an upright position. If transporting it in an upright position is not possible, lay it down on the compressor side of the unit being careful to secure the door preventing it from opening.
6. When the freezer is installed in new location, and if it has been transported on its side, set it right side up and allow the freezer to sit for the same amount of time that it was on its side. Do not plug the unit into the electrical receptacle without allowing this settling time. The unit can be damaged if it is plugged in prematurely.
7. If the unit was transported in an upright position there is no waiting time required.

Should you have any additonal questions, please let us know.

Yes, but only at the regular price. They don't give you the 10% military discount if there is a sales special going on (like when I bought it during black Friday).

Check with your store first, as some store are requiring you to register first, and then you just put in your number in at checkout to get the discount. Not sure if you can use the discount online (never found an option to enter a discount code when ordering online, so recommend buying at store or via phone).

THERE IS A DRAIN AT THE BOTTOM. YOU JUST SHUT OFF FREEZER AND LET DRAIN BY HOOKING UP GARDEN HOSE. REALLY THOUGH, YOU DO MAYBE ONCE EVERY 5 YRS IF THAT. THE LESS YOU OPEN FREEZER THE LESS ICE THAT BUILDS UP. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN ALWAYS GOING IN AND OUT, YOU WILL GET MORE ICE. BUT I WOULD STILL PREFER MANUAL DE FROST OVER FROSTFREE, LIKE IN A SIDE BY SIDE REFRIG BECAUSE THE MANUAL DEFROST DOES NOT MESS WITH THE TASTE OF THE FOOD.
