Customer questions and answers for Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Granules

Question

I applied the granular Bayer Advanced program in error. Can I apply the liquid this year?

Asked by
Garden Girl
about 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Granules on
June 11, 2012
I meant to use the Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub product to protect against emerald ash borers. I did not understand that only the liquid is effective for this purpose, and I applied the granular product. Can I also apply the liquid concentrate this season so I protect against the emerald ash borer? If yes, how much time should I wait between the two. I want to protect against EAB but don't want to hurt the trees with too much chemical treatment. Can you help?

Hello Garden Girl and thank you for your question.

The Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Granules are effective for 12 months from application. You cannot apply the liquid formula until after the 12 month waiting period. I spoke to Bayer who confirmed that they do not make another product to defend against the emerald ash borer.

Contact your local extension agency for non-chemical protective methods or possible (alternative) spray applications designed for your part of the country to defend against the EABs.

Best wishes on your project.

The Bayer Advanced 12 month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed granules are not effective for treating the Emerald Ash Borer. We recommend using the Bayer Advanced 12 month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed concentrate to control the Emerald Ash Borer. The age of the tree will not make the product less effective.

Why didn't Bayer recall the Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Granules product when it was found not to be effective against the Emerald Ash Borer? Many brought this product strictly because of your claim to Kill the Emerald Ash Borer. It even stated this on your label !

Advised him that once further testing had been done and it was determined that the granules do not control the EAB the label was changed and steps were taken to let retailers know that it doesn't help with them.
