GE does not recommend to use a power cord from another appliance. Electric dryer power cords are sold seperately to ensure that they comply with all state and local wiring codes. These codes vary significantly from state to state, and even, city to city. Since it is not possible to anticipate the final destination of a dryer as it leaves the assembly line and install the proper cord.

Four prong dryer cords are required in new installations beginning in 1996.

Yes, the dryer is approved for installation in an alcove or closet, it will be stated on a label on the dryer back.

• The dryer MUST be vented to the outdoors.
• Minimum clearance between dryer cabinet and adjacent walls or other surfaces is:
0 in. either side
3 in. front and rear
• Minimum vertical space from floor to overhead cabinets, ceiling, etc. is 43 in. without pedestal, 55 in. with pedestal.
• Closet doors must be louvered or otherwise ventilated and must contain a minimum of 60 sq. in. of open area equally distributed. If the closet contains both a washer and a dryer, doors must contain a minimum of 120 sq. in. of open area equally distributed.

When the exhaust is located at the rear of the dryer, minimum clearance from the wall is 5.5 inches.
