Question

Cross reference of fluorescent light ballast by Advance Transformer Co Cat No R2S35-1-TP

I've recently tried to replace a kitchen fluorescent light ballast-Advance Transformer Co Cat No R2S35-1-TP. Once, with a Phillips Advance RELB-2S40-N. It only lasted 6 hours until it died. There were some melted black rubber on the ballast. I recently replaced this with a Phillips Advance ICN-2S40-N. Until it died for only 3 hours. What type of ballast should I replace my original one with? It's a 4 ft 1-1/2 dia 2 light kitchen lamp. Do I need a special type of ballast? Is it a connection problem?

answer 2
1. Besure the ballast you purchase is for a two lamp system. 2. besure the purchased ballast is for the correct lamps (T8 or T30). 3. I would recommend a newer solid state ballast, GE makes them and can be found at your local hardware or DIY store.

Hello emrvin3, I’m Newf from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.

Old magnetic ballasts will not cross-reference well to newer electronic ballasts.

For the size, wattage and number of bulbs in your fixture, this is the correct GE replacement ballast.

Please carefully ensure that all connections are sound and made per the wiring diagram on the face of the ballast.

I hope this helps,
Newf.

Need a replacement for RQM-2S40-3-TP

Also I currently need two of these per 4-lamp fixture. Are there also any replacements which would only require one ballast?
