The simple answer is yes it includes wooden and ceramic floor. The feature "bare floor" simply means that the rotating brush used in the carpet mode is turned off. The brush will then not mar the "bare floor". If it rotates (spins) when using on any type of bare flooring it could scratch or mar the surface. The suction continues to pick up any loose material.
The feature works as it should and the vacume does not cause any damage to any type of hard surface.

The unit should pick up fine on shag carpet as long as the height adjustment is set accordingly. The self propelled feature may no be preferred for use on that kind of carpeting depending on how thick the shag is. Hope this helps.

I'm 65 years old with a lower back problem, bad wrists and my rt. shoulder has been replaced. We also have a long haired shedder of a cat. I can't get bogged down in the process. I physically can't manage that. I'm very open to suggestions.

Hi Mamacass616! The WindTunnel Self-Propelled will work for pet hair. That is not a problem. With your conditions the Self-Propelled feature is very convenient and easy to use. In regards to the high pile carpeting the WindTunnel Self-Propelled has a manual height adjustment feature, which will raise the base of the cleaner for high pile carpeting. Hope this helps!

I, too, have had back surgery. I am older than you and have arthritis. The self propel feature helps tremendously, but it is still some work to clean my thick pile carpet. This is my second purchase of this model. The first one lasted over 10 years until I wore the brush out, and the suction lessened. I would not try to vacuum without these features.

My wife and I have owned a Hoover Wind Tunnel self-propelled upright vacuum cleaner for over four years. We're both 68 and we've used it on thick carpet, high pile, low pile, hard floors and have never had any difficulty with the self-propelled feature. It is heavy, so carrying the vacuum up and down stairs can be a challenge. We don't have any experience with the vacuum and pets but I have heard the Wind Tunnel is not great with pet hair.
