There are different credits you may be able to take advantage of. Check with your utility company to see if they offer money back; I received money for a new window air conditioner. This hot water heater was not part of the rebate from Con Edison in NYC. They are more into boilers and central air conditioners.

Regarding income taxes, you need to see the IRS guide lines to see if this qualifies. Income tax laws change every year.

I am a customer who recently purchased this water heater. This one does not have a self cleaning feature. I am not sure but do not believe conventional gas hot water heaters have a self cleaning feature.
While cleaning hot water heaters twice a year is enough for most homeowners, it depends on what type of water you have and where you live. If you have hard water, you may need to flush your hot water heater more often. It depends on the hot water usage, the thermostat setting, and the type of water you have.
If you have a gas hot-water heater, you shouldn’t drain it more than three quarters. Turn the heat down as far as it will go and shut the water feed.

Hi Fireball,

Thank you for your question.

I reached out to the manufacturer on this question and below is their response to you:

There are 40 propane models. If you look at the model number that you have presented "SG40T12AVG", the S stands for a 12 year model, the G stands for natural gas. Since propane heaters only come with a 6 year warranty you would need a model the starts with "GP", which is a 6year propane model.

Hope this helps.

As the water in the tank heats up, it expands pushing water back into the supply which could contaminate the water supply. the expansion tank absorbs the excess pressure. The tank is easy to install and will also eliminate water hammer. Building codes change as new products come out and when safer, healthier ways are developed. It wasn't too long ago that the electrical system in our homes did not require a ground circuit.

Good question. In the past your home water supply from the street was an "open" system. That is, when pressure in your house water supply increased due to the water tank heating up the water the excess pressure had a place to expand... back to the street supply. Now most water authorities will make you install a back flow prevention valve as part of your inside water meter unit preventing any water from your home from getting back into the street supply. This is called a "closed" system. So, with a closed system and pressure increase from your water tank there is only one place where that pressure might be relieved (unless you have an expansion tank installed) and that is through your water heater pressure relief valve. The expansion tank does the job of adjusting for increases in water pressure so the water has a place to intentionally go rather than on the basement floor or back out to the street. Hope this helps.

As a customer, I would not look to buy an extended warranty on the labor. My hot water heaters always broke after the warranty period. I just bought the 12 year hotwater heater.

You may already have a labor warranty through your utility company if you have a contract with them on your heating and hot water system. If not, do not waste your money on extending labor on your hotwater heater. It should take no longer than 90 minutes to install a new one.
