It starts okay and the door locks, but about a minute later a continuous sound comes on and it reads FS in the display window. Also the door unlocks. What's going on? I follow the directions to the letter. I can't get the sound to quit unless I push the Cancel button.

Tetta,
I apologize for any issues that you feel you are experiencing. That can be frustrating and I hope to help provide you with some resolution. From what you have stated the "F5" is some type of service code. In order to get an explanation of the meaning of the code, you would need to call The Home Depot/Maytag Hotline at 877.461.3376 option 2, option 1. From there you would be able to speak with a Service and Parts Specialist. They would either be able to provide some troubleshooting tips and/or help you setup service on the appliance. Thank you for viewing this Maytag home appliance and being a customer.

I purchased a Maytag microwave in October 2011. I was doing a kitchen remodel and I had it installed first week of Dec 2011. Well, on Thanksgiving... poof! the microwave stopped working! I called for service and after a year the service contract was $299 plus tax. That's comparable to the orginal cost of appliance, so the manufacturers go by the date of purchase, not the date of install.

There is special cleaner sold at the Home Depot to clean but it takes several steps. Also, you can use regular glass cleaner which wont streak as much as an all-purpose kitchen spray. All work fine. Just don't use anything super-abraisive.

Angel,

The recommended cleaning method is stated below and pulled from the use and care manual.
Cleaning Method:
Cooktop Cleaner Part Number 31464 is recommended regularly to
help avoid scratches, pitting and abrasions and to condition the
cooktop.
Cooktop Scraper Part Number WA906B is also recommended for
stubborn soils. These can be ordered as accessories. See cover for
contact information. The Cooktop Scraper uses razor blades. Store
razor blades out of the reach of children.
Do not use steel wool, abrasive powder cleansers, chlorine bleach,
rust remover or ammonia because damage may occur.

Yes, you'll need the extra electrical cord. (Make sure your old stove is not hard-wired before setting up delivery for the new stove. If your old stove is hard-wired, you'll need to have an electrician install an outlet box behind the stove. The new stove will then plug right in to the new outlet.)

Also, you'll probably want to get the glass top cleaner/scratch remover because the glass scratches very easily.

Jackie,

The additional item needed for this appliance to operate is the range cord. Every electric range does not come with an electrical cord. There are typically two different types of outlets used to plug in the range. They are either a 3 prong outlet or 4 prong outlet. You would need to verify your outlet type, then when you order, during the checkout process you will be prompted to choose which cord is needed for you. Other than that, there are not any other additional items needed. Thank you for viewing this Maytag Electric Range.

jake,
You are able to use cast iron pans on this Maytag Freestanding Range. Below I have pasted from the use and care guide the importance of using proper size pans. This should help clarify some also. Thank you for viewing this Maytag Home Appliance.

Use Proper Pan Size – The range is equipped with one or
more surface units of different size. Select utensils having
flat bottoms large enough to cover the surface unit heating
element. The use of undersized utensils will expose a
portion of the heating element to direct contact and may
result in ignition of clothing. Proper relationship of utensil to
burner will also improve efficiency.

Question

How do I get the timer to control the oven, for timed baking?

Asked by
AnnoyedBaker
about 5.3 cu. ft. Electric Range with Self-Cleaning Oven in White on
March 26, 2012
This is a normal basic function of any oven... The instruction manual does not seem to address this issue. Do I have to stand around and babysit my oven when baking, so that I can manually turn it off after a set period of time? That seems crazy. No modern over should need that. The timer only seems to control a beeper.... It does not control the oven as far as I can tell. Why would anyone make an oven that cannot do timed baking?

Hello AnnoyedBaker, I’m Newf from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.

You are correct that timers will turn off a microwave oven. However, when baking in a conventional oven, the timer serves to let you know that what you are baking needs to be removed from the oven. At that point you would turn the oven off.

If the timer just turned off the oven, whatever you were baking would continue to bake long after with results you would not likely appreciate.

I hope this helps,
Newf.

TB,
Any of the Maytag Stainless Steel Ranges will match the other Stainless Steel Maytag Home Appliances. Monochromatic Stainless Steel is still Stainless. For a refrigerator, it means that the doors and handles are SS. The cabinet, base grille, and dispenser is finished in Apollo Grey to provide a consistent look and compliment the SS. For the dishwashers, the console is finished in Apollo Grey. There is not a monochromatic finish for the ranges, they are finished in Black on SS, however all of the appliances look great together. Thank you for viewing Maytag and we look forward to having you as a customer.

The below information was taken from the use and care guide and will answer your question about canning on this Maytag electric range. Thank you for your interest in Maytag, we appreciate the opportunity to answer your question.

HomeCanning
When canning for long periods, alternate the use of surface
cooking areas, elements or surface burners between batches.
This allows time for the most recently used areas to cool.
Center the canner on the grate or largest surface cooking
area or element. On electric cooktops, canners should not
extend more than ½" (1.3 cm) beyond the surface cooking
area or element.
Do not place canner on 2 surface cooking areas, elements or
surface burners at the same time.
On ceramic glass models, use only flat-bottomed canners.
For more information, contact your local agricultural
department. Companies that manufacture home canning
products can also offer assistance.
