I am sure your garage door opener is like mine, and the battery just sits in the unit. It was designed with the wires to be connected with the terminal ends to be exposed when you open the cover plate over the battery, so if the factory or another person put the battery in the opposite direction, it should just pull out. The battery is pretty heavy so you might have to gently pry it out if the wires are wedging it into the battery compartment, but it should come out. To prevent any accidental ground connection during this process, I would recommend you disconnect the 110ac plug until you have completed the battery swap.
