Hello Vonkane,
I am happy to help. You are correct, the newer models are a bit taller, but will fit in the same space. You will need to use the mounting kit that comes with the new unit. Here is a link for models you can choose from:

Hello Kkilgannon - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.

All of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth).

You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave as they have changed over the years and are not interchangeable.

A model that you may like that would be a great replacement would be the JVM6172DFWW.

I hope this helps! Thank you for checking with us!

Hello,
This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. Although we no longer make your model, we do have some terrific models available. We generally do not suggest an exact replacement model because all of our current 30" models that start with the letters JVM, JNM, CVM, PVM, PNM, and SCA will normally fit into the same area. The dimensions may vary, but just slightly. These models all have a built-in fan underneath the microwave and are designed to be installed over a range or cooktop.

JVM's require a minimum 66" mounting height from the floor to top of the microwave. JVM models may be mounted higher than 66" from floor, but the further the microwave is from the cooktop, the more the vent draw capability is affected. The 66" from the floor dimension will allow approximately 14"-16" between the cooktop and the bottom front of the microwave. On the newer JVM's which are taller, the minimum would be 13 1/2". Please note that it is not critical that this 13 1/2"/14"-16" figure is met exactly. But it is the 66" from floor to top of microwave dimension that should be followed. If there is less than 66", the warranty is void if problems occur due to heat or steam from the cooktop surface below the microwave. Another way to look at it is to keep 30" between the top of the range and bottom of the cabinet that the JVM attaches to.

It is also important to know that you will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. Current models are installed with the use of a mounting plate. There is a key slot for flat bottomed cabinets and self-directed tapping screws.

Your current model is 1.3 cubic ft and 900 watts.

Thanks so much for your question. Have a good day!

Hello,

Microwave ovens are extremely difficult to diagnose. There are many components in a microwave that can cause similar symptoms. For safety reasons, GE offers no do-it-yourself repair advice on microwave ovens due to:

*Safety requirements due to high voltage
*Complexity of electronic circuitry.
*Special equipment needed to make diagnosis.

I recommend contacting GE Consumer Service to schedule an appointment for an authorized technician to diagnose and repair.

Hello Ron - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.

If your microwave runs, but does not heat, then we recommend to reset the electronics. To do this, simply unplug the microwave or turn off the house circuit breaker to the microwave outlet for about five minutes.

If this does not help, then service will be needed. For safety reasons, GE offers no do-it-yourself repair advice on microwave ovens due to:
*Safety requirements due to high voltage (capacitor holds a high voltage charge even after it has been unplugged)
*Complexity of electronic circuitry.
*Special equipment needed to make diagnosis.

Please contact GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 to have your unit properly diagnosed.

I hope this helps! Thank you for contacting us!

They appear to look the same other than that the older model has horizontal vents for a charcoal filter accessory above the door. Both have outside top exhaust option. We do not want to have to hire an installer so looking for the same design and mounting. We want to order asap as the older one is having problems.Thank you!
