Hi-this is Sue from GE. We certainly appreciate your loyalty! Our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are all designed to be installed in a standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth). You will need to use the mounting bracket included with the new microwave. The comparable model is our GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven

Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. All of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth, 66" min. mounting height). So any of our new models will work in your current space. You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. You may also want to look at an over-the-range Advantium such as the PSA9120SFSS. It is a microwave and oven all-in-one. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Hi-this is Sue from GE. Thanks for your purchase! We are happy to help. On the "over-the-range" models, it is possible for the vent fan to come on after the unit is first installed and plugged in. You do not need to push any buttons. Just open and close the door. It is possible that during shipping the door may have become misaligned.

It may be necessary to open and close the door two or three times but no more than four. If this does not correct the situation, unplug the microwave from the wall outlet and contact service. If you would like to schedule a warranty service appointment, please contact GE Consumer Service at 1-800-432-2737.

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Hello, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. Your current model dimensions are the following: APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS (HxWxD)
16 13/32 in x 29 7/8 in x 15 1/4 in and this model is 1.7 cu ft. There isn't a direct replacement for this model. However, all of our current 30" models that start with the letters JVM, CVM, PVM, PNM, and SCA will normally fit into the same area. The dimensions may vary, but just slightly. These models all have a built-in fan underneath the microwave and are designed to be installed over a range or cooktop.

JVM's require a minimum 66" mounting height from the floor to top of the microwave. JVM models may be mounted higher than 66" from floor, but the further the microwave is from the cooktop, the more the vent draw capability is affected. The 66" from the floor dimension will allow approximately 14"-16" between the cooktop and the bottom front of the microwave. On the newer JVM's which are taller, the minimum would be 13 1/2". Please note that it is not critical that this 13 1/2"/14"-16" figure is met exactly. But it is the 66" from floor to top of microwave dimension that should be followed. If there is less than 66", the warranty is void if problems occur due to heat or steam from the cooktop surface below the microwave. Another way to look at it is to keep 30" between the top of the range and bottom of the cabinet that the JVM attaches to.

It is also important to know that you will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. Current models are installed with the use of a mounting plate. There is a key slot for flat bottomed cabinets and self-directed tapping screws. We have a wide variety of models to choose from. Thanks so much for checking with us. Have a good day!

I removed inside door frame and noticed that door latch mechanism in door where spring attaches to door frame is broken off and cannot be repaired. Tried to locate replacement door but none available. Cannot run microwave unless door held closed which is neither safe nor practical. Would like to replace Microwave with similar size due to cabinet spacing. This GE microwave has a return fan located on top to take exhaust back into Apartment. There is no exterior venting.

Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. Please discontinue using your microwave. Any damage to a microwave door would require service. Therefore, we agree that it would be best to replace the microwave. The good news is that all of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth, 66" min. mounting height). The height and depth of the models may vary slightly, but any of our new models could work in your current space. You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. Since your unit was externally vented, we recommend replacing same with an externally vented microwave. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Hello,

GE no longer manufactures a microwave that will fit into the same opening/trim kit. The model that is closest, is PEB1590DMWW with a new trim kit JX1530DMWW (for a 30" finished width) or JX1527DMWW (for a 27" finished width. The cutout width is the same however, the cutout height is different. Your existing trim kit for the JE1640WB 001 required a cutout height of 17-9/16" (+/- 1/16"). The new model, PEB1590DMWW, requires a cutout height of 18-3/4" (+/- 1/8").

Thank you for checking.
