Question

my JVM1750SM1SS will work for one heating then buttons will not work to run again. After 1-2 hours, will run again.

Asked by

my JVM1750SM1SS will work for heating one item, then buttons will not work to run again. It will not clear, or start, nor do any of the buttons work to make it run. Fan, turntable, and surface light buttons will continue to work during this time when nothing else runs. Then after 1-2 hours, it will let you program to work again. We have tried to unplug and let sit for 2-10 minutes to reset board, but does not help.

I want to replace my over the range microwave mentioned above with a new GE. I don't know the exact dimensions and don't find them in the user manual. I think it is 900 watts and 1.3 cu ft. I have read in these responses that generally any other JVM, JNM, CVM, PVM, PNM or SCA model will fit to replace, but how do I know for sure? Can I get the dimensions to make sure the new GE will fit? Thanks

Hello lisan - this is Nancy at GE Appliances. I'm sorry to hear that your microwave is no longer heating properly, and I'm happy to help you. We recommend to disconnect power to the microwave at the main power supply for a couple of minutes to reset the control panel. For safety reasons, GE offers no do-it-yourself repair advice on microwave ovens due to:
*Safety requirements due to high voltage (capacitor holds a high voltage charge even after it has been unplugged)
*Complexity of electronic circuitry.
*Special equipment needed to make diagnosis.
Because of the cost of repair, it is normally, more beneficial to replace the microwave rather than repair it. Should you wish to inquire about repair, please contact GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Hello FAYEELIAS - this is Nancy at GE. I'm sorry to hear that your microwave is no longer working and I'm happy to help you. We do not have a direct replacement for your microwave. The good news is that that all of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth, 66" min. mounting height). The height and depth of the models may vary slightly, but any of our new models could work in your current space. You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave as they have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. Since your current microwave was internally vented, then you may want to look at internally vented models, even though any of our microwaves can be converted to be internally vented. You may also want to look at our amazing Advantium 120, Model # PSA9120SFSS, which is a microwave and oven all-in-one. I hope this helps! Thanks for choosing GE!

Hi-this is Sue from GE. Thanks for your purchase! We are happy to help. On the "over-the-range" models, it is possible for the vent fan to come on after the unit is first installed and plugged in. You do not need to push any buttons. Just open and close the door. It is possible that during shipping the door may have become misaligned.

It may be necessary to open and close the door two or three times but no more than four. If this does not correct the situation, unplug the microwave from the wall outlet and contact service. If you would like to schedule a warranty service appointment, please contact GE Consumer Service at 1-800-432-2737.

Hello, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. Your current model dimensions are the following: APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS (HxWxD)
16 13/32 in x 29 7/8 in x 15 1/4 in and this model is 1.7 cu ft. There isn't a direct replacement for this model. However, all of our current 30" models that start with the letters JVM, CVM, PVM, PNM, and SCA will normally fit into the same area. The dimensions may vary, but just slightly. These models all have a built-in fan underneath the microwave and are designed to be installed over a range or cooktop.

JVM's require a minimum 66" mounting height from the floor to top of the microwave. JVM models may be mounted higher than 66" from floor, but the further the microwave is from the cooktop, the more the vent draw capability is affected. The 66" from the floor dimension will allow approximately 14"-16" between the cooktop and the bottom front of the microwave. On the newer JVM's which are taller, the minimum would be 13 1/2". Please note that it is not critical that this 13 1/2"/14"-16" figure is met exactly. But it is the 66" from floor to top of microwave dimension that should be followed. If there is less than 66", the warranty is void if problems occur due to heat or steam from the cooktop surface below the microwave. Another way to look at it is to keep 30" between the top of the range and bottom of the cabinet that the JVM attaches to.

It is also important to know that you will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. Current models are installed with the use of a mounting plate. There is a key slot for flat bottomed cabinets and self-directed tapping screws. We have a wide variety of models to choose from. Thanks so much for checking with us. Have a good day!

Hello,

GE no longer manufactures a microwave that will fit into the same opening/trim kit. The model that is closest, is PEB1590DMWW with a new trim kit JX1530DMWW (for a 30" finished width) or JX1527DMWW (for a 27" finished width. The cutout width is the same however, the cutout height is different. Your existing trim kit for the JE1640WB 001 required a cutout height of 17-9/16" (+/- 1/16"). The new model, PEB1590DMWW, requires a cutout height of 18-3/4" (+/- 1/8").
