Question

Spacemaker XL1800 over the range microwave

Asked by
Crystal

about Spacemaker 1.7 cu. ft. Over the Range Microwave in Stainless Steel-DISCONTINUED on
January 13, 2016
Hi,
My unit was manufactured in 2004. It has stopped heating although everything else e.g. venting over the range, turntabe, still works.

2 questions.
(1) possible to trouble shoot to bring it back to life?
(2) if not, what would be suitable replacement? Major concern is, the new unit must fit the current space.

Many thanks

Crystal

Hi Crystal-this is Sue from GE Appliances. We are happy to provide assistance. If the microwave runs but is not heating, it could be one of many components. Make sure the “Timer” function was not inadvertently used. Check to ensure the is door closed firmly. Close it firmly, but do not slam. This confirms the engagement of the door's safety mechanisms. Reset the electronics by unplugging or by turning off power at the circuit breaker for 30 seconds or so. Also, you can choose any model as a replacement. Our 30" over-the-range microwaves are all designed to be installed in the same standard 30" wide range hood cabinet space. The height and depth of models may vary slightly. Check out comparable models JVM6175SFSS and JVM7195SFSS. Thanks for checking with us!

Dear Bev - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. We're sorry to hear that your microwave handle is falling apart from the door. There is no direct replacement microwave for this model. However, all of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth, 66" min. mounting height). The height and depth of the models may vary slightly, but any of our new models could work in your current space. You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. I hope this helps! Thanks for being loyal to GE Appliances!

my JVM1750SM1SS will work for heating one item, then buttons will not work to run again. It will not clear, or start, nor do any of the buttons work to make it run. Fan, turntable, and surface light buttons will continue to work during this time when nothing else runs. Then after 1-2 hours, it will let you program to work again. We have tried to unplug and let sit for 2-10 minutes to reset board, but does not help.

I want to replace my over the range microwave mentioned above with a new GE. I don't know the exact dimensions and don't find them in the user manual. I think it is 900 watts and 1.3 cu ft. I have read in these responses that generally any other JVM, JNM, CVM, PVM, PNM or SCA model will fit to replace, but how do I know for sure? Can I get the dimensions to make sure the new GE will fit? Thanks

Hello lisan - this is Nancy at GE Appliances. I'm sorry to hear that your microwave is no longer heating properly, and I'm happy to help you. We recommend to disconnect power to the microwave at the main power supply for a couple of minutes to reset the control panel. For safety reasons, GE offers no do-it-yourself repair advice on microwave ovens due to:
*Safety requirements due to high voltage (capacitor holds a high voltage charge even after it has been unplugged)
*Complexity of electronic circuitry.
*Special equipment needed to make diagnosis.
Because of the cost of repair, it is normally, more beneficial to replace the microwave rather than repair it. Should you wish to inquire about repair, please contact GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!
