Hello Kkilgannon - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.

All of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth).

You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave as they have changed over the years and are not interchangeable.

A model that you may like that would be a great replacement would be the JVM6172DFWW.

I hope this helps! Thank you for checking with us!

Hello,

Microwave ovens are extremely difficult to diagnose. There are many components in a microwave that can cause similar symptoms. For safety reasons, GE offers no do-it-yourself repair advice on microwave ovens due to:

*Safety requirements due to high voltage
*Complexity of electronic circuitry.
*Special equipment needed to make diagnosis.

I recommend contacting GE Consumer Service to schedule an appointment for an authorized technician to diagnose and repair.

Is there any reason we can't use the same mounting plate as the online installation instructions mirror that of our hard copy instructions for the earlier model? They appear to look the same other than that the older model has horizontal vents for a charcoal filter accessory above the door. Both have outside top exhaust option. We do not want to have to hire an installer so looking for the same design and mounting. We want to order asap as the older one is having problems.Thank you!

Hello George,

This is Nancy from GE and I am happy to help you.

Any of our new 30” over-the-range microwaves will work in your current space. Your previous model came externally vented, so if it was changed to be internally vented, then you may need to have the installer internally vent your new microwave and you will want to use the charcoal filter.

Also, the new microwaves are only approved with the new mounting kit that comes with the new microwave.

Thank you for your question. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your interest in a new microwave replacement. I am happy to help you.

All of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth). Due to cosmetic differences between the models, the height and depth of the models may vary slightly.

You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. Current models are installed with the use of a mounting plate. There is a key slot for flat bottomed cabinets and self-directed tapping screws.

A model that you may like is the JVM1950SRSS.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the beautiful GE Spacemaker 1.7 cu. ft. Over the Range Microwave in Stainless Steel Model # JVM1740SPS. Yes, this model would make a great replacement.

There are many current model microwaves that will fit into a 30" wide installation space. The model numbers will begin with the letters CVM, PVM, PNM, JVM1, JVM2 , or JNM.

None of the installation kits are totally interchangeable. GE recommends to use the new mounting system and hardware that comes with the specific microwave. There are vent duct, cord cut-out location and mounting screw location changes for these models.

Hello Jim,

Thank you for your interest in the GE Spacemaker 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave in model # JVM1740SPSS.

The main support comes from the back wall and the microwave must be connected to at least
1 wall stud. GE does recommend the microwave is secured to a cabinet above for support and safety. The power cord comes out of the top of the microwave and needs to be plugged into a cabinet above.

Please see the installation instructions for complete details and specifications. They can be viewed on the Home Depot website for this model uner "more Info" .

Hello Rich,

Thank you for your interest in the GE Spacemaker 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave in Stainless Steel Model # JVM1740SPS.

Yes, microwave cosmetics and designs have changed over the years. The over the ranges microwaves have slightly changed in the height. They can be between 16" to 16 1/2" in the front.
The UL requirement for installation has not changed over the years. The microwave needs to be mounted a minimum of 66" from the top of the microwave to the floor. This gives the adequate space or clearance between the bottom of the micowave and the cooktop.

Model JVM1540SM is 16" in height in the front. There are not any models today that are 15" in height.

The current model microwaves that will fit into a 30" wide installation space.

Hello JP,

Thank you for choosing the replacement GE Spacemaker Over-the-Range microwave model # JVM1740SPSS.

All mounting hardware, brackets, wall plate and template come with the microwave.

You can certainly try the existing mounting hardware but none of the installation kits are totally interchangeable. GE recommends to use the new mounting system and hardware that comes with the specific microwave. There are vent duct, cord cut-out location and mounting screw location changes for these models.

M922 is not the the mounting hardware for installation. It is the service of installing.

M922 Accessory/Service: This service includes removing of all packing materials, disconnecting of old microwave, mounting the new microwave and connecting to an existing 120V outlet located in the cabinet above. Disconnection does not include removal of hoods.

I hope this helps clarify. Should you have additional questions, please let us know.
