No, if you are venting outside, the unit comes with a grease filter that can be washed as needed. So, you don't need to purchase anything extra.

I have a vent fan over my oven now but it just blows the air back out the front. There is space for it but the cabinet above does not have a vent or duct going through it out the ceiling. Does this model have a fan that can vent oven odors out the top and back out the front? If not is there such a model? Thank you for your help.

This model can recirculate the air back into your kitchen OR can be vented outside if you have a vent either above or in the back wall behind the unit. If recirculated, the fan would blow the air out the front of the unit at the top.

Hello Mike,

This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to answer your question.

Yes, this microwave model # HVM1540DPBB can be installed over your oven/cooktop even if you do not have a vent duct. This model comes from the factory with an internal ventilation system that is set to vent externally. However, this model also has the capability to be converted to vent internally so that it will vent odors out the top and back out of the front. The installation instructions that come with this model will include instructions for making this conversion. A charcoal filter kit will need to be purchased and installed to complete this conversion. For information on purchasing this kit, please contact the Home Depot Parts Department at 1-877-650-2121.

Thank you for your interest in this GE microwave. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello, This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help your with your microwave model HVM1540DPBB.

I would first recommend to set the Clock. The request to set the time may occur if there was a power interuption or the microwave was just installed.
* Press the Clock pad
* Enter the time of day
* Select Am or PM
* Press Start or Clock

Yes, your model HVM1540 does have the Scroll feature, Electronic Digital Display with Clock Scrolling Variable Scroll Speed 5 speeds (sub-pad w/ AM/PM).

The scroll speed fo the display can be changed. Press and hold the AM/PM pad about 3 seconds to bring up the display. Select 1-5 for slow to fast scroll speed.

I hope this helps!

The model numbers will begin with the letters "CVM", "PVM", "PNM", "JVM1", "JVM2", or "JNM". None of the installation kits are totally interchangeable. You must use the new mounting system and hardware that comes with the specific microwave. There are vent duct, cord cut-out location and mounting screw location changes for these models.

Following are the dimension of your model JVM240BL and the current model HVM1540DP.

HVM1540DP
Depth: 15.25"
Height: 16.5"
Width: 29.875"

Front: 14 3/4"H

I would suggest to consider the following models. They all offer the optional built-in trim kit for installation over a wall oven.

PEB1590DM: microwave / convection, trim kit JX1527DM
PEB2060DM: trim kit JX2027DM
JEB1860DM: trim kit JX2027DM

Hello,

This is Donna from GE and I will be happy to assist you with your installation question on HVM1540DP.

The microwave needs to be mounted 66" or more from the top of the microwave to the floor. If this requirement is met then there will be proper cleanrance and spacing between the bottom of the microwave and range top.

This information is provided in the installation instructions and are available on the Home Depot website for this model under (More Info).

Hi, I'm Brenda with GE.

Although we do offer some basic problem-solving tips on most of our appliances, microwaves are not considered consumer-repairable and are extremely difficult to diagnose due to many components which can cause similar symptoms. They also contain an internal high-voltage capacitor which holds a voltage charge even if the unit is unplugged prohibiting us, for safety reasons, from having any do-it-yourself repair information on them. While I understand that you would like to repair this yourself, unfortunately this type of appliance diagnosis and repair is beyond the level of assistance we can offer.

Should you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

Hello Sue, This is Donna from GE and I will be happy to help you.

Model HVM1540DP in stainless steel will show fingerprints and involves more cleaning. Any stainless steel finish will.

CleanSteelTM is a laminate vinyl with the look of stainless, but without the fingerprints. Magnets stick to CleanSteel. CleanSteel blends beautifully with other full stainless appliances in the kitchen setting. There is not currently a spacemaker microwave avaialble in CleanSteel.

Hi arias - this is Tom from our How-To Community.

The minimum height needed for the microwaves we carry is about 16 and a half inches which is the height of the model chosen. Over the range microwaves tend to stick out further than the surrounding cabinets, just as the range hoods do. The width and depth measurements look “standard” as well, so your choice should be fine.

Thanks for your interest in replacing your GE microwave. The model HVM1540DP should fit without a problem. It is deeper, but the height and depth are approximately the same. The dimensions of your current model JVM131 are as follows:

Height 16 1/2"
Width 30"
Depth 13"

The model HVM1540DP dimensions are as follows:

Height 16 1/2"
Width 29 7/8"
Depth 15 1/4"

Yes, the vent location has not changed on GE over-the-range microwaves. It is still centered at the top rear of the microwave (for a vertical or horizontal duct connection) and still connects to a 3-1/4" x 10" duct.

Thank you for your interest in this GE microwave. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Eric. Good morning! This is Jill with GE. Thank you for your interest in our appliances and for your inquiry. I am happy to help.

It is important to know that when replacing a previous over-the-range GE microwave, you will need to use the mounting brackets, templates and hardware that come with it. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. Current models are installed with the use of a mounting plate. There is a key slot for flat bottomed cabinets and self-directed tapping screws.

Although I know this is not the answer you were wishing to hear, I hope my information is of help to you. Please let us know if any other questions come up. Have a nice day.
