Hi.
I have an old metal staircase leading to my storefront and it can get pretty slippery especially when wet.

As you can see it's quite old and we will need to clean it then paint it. In the process we will want to add BEHR Non-Skid Floor Finish.

What kind of paint do you recommend for this job?

Also, any tips on prepping the stairs for paint would be helpful! Thanks!

I had my pool deck replaced last year with stamped concrete. We had one coat of a stain put on for the summer. Dear Sal,

The Non-Skid Floor Finish Additive will work in most floor coatings. However, we would not recommend using this additive with Transparent or Semi-Transparent Stains as it will likely make the coating more opaque and will add texture possibly affecting the final look. For wood surfaces, this Non-Skid Floor Finish Additive is usually added to our Porch & Patio Floor Paint. This additive will also work with a Solid Color Wood Stain as another option.

Thank you for the inquiry!

Dear Joanie,

We would not recommend using our Non-Skid Floor Finish Additive with stains and finishes. The additive would affect the look of stains and finishes substantially and is not formulated for that use.The Non-Skid Additive is formulated for epoxies and paints. One idea to consider is to use our Porch & Patio Floor Paint that you could add the Non-Skid Additive too. This would be more of a solid color paint look instead of a stain or finish that tends to be more transparent. This product is formulated for wood and could accomplish the outcome you desire.

Hi Tiny,

Thanks for your interest in our BEHR Premium Non-Skid Floor Finish Additive. For a high quality finish, we recommend to use the BEHR Premium Non-Skid Additive with the BEHR Premium 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint or BEHR Premium Solid Color Concrete Stain for areas subject to automotive traffic. The BEHR Non-Skid Additive once added to a topcoat, will embed itself into the topcoat creating a subtle non-skid texture. The BEHR Non-Skid Additive is suitable for most opaque (solid finish) topcoat paints applied to driveways.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your inquiry on our BEHR Non-Skid Floor Finish Additive. The BEHR Non-Skid Floor Finish Additive is typically recommended on opaque types of coatings such as; BEHR 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint, BEHR Porch & Patio Floor Paint and BEHR Solid Color Concrete Stain. The BEHR Non-Skid needs to be poured then blended into a thick bodied type of coating so it can embed itself into the coating and be evenly dispersed. The BEHR Low-Lustre Sealer is a thin bodied clear sealer. If the BEHR Non-Skid is poured into the Low-Lustre Sealer, it may sink to the bottom and not evenly disperse.

If you have concerns about the surface being slippery, you may consider the following optional step. Instead of pouring the Non-Skid inside the Low-Lustre Sealer, apply the sealer first then broadcast by hand evenly onto the wet sealer. This method will allow the Non-Skid to be dispersed evenly. However the Non-Skid may not be completely embedded into the sealer, as it would be on an opaque coating. Some Non-Skid particles maybe rubbed off from abrasion.

Thank you.
