Thank you for your question.

I did reach out to the manufacturer on this question and here is their recommendation:

“The 360 degrees directional nature of the GE 50311 allows the user to plug the nightlight and direct light in a concentrated spot on the wall it is plugged into. Unfortunately it does not sound like it would work for your particular installation, as the direction of the light cannot be changed to shine straight up.”

No, unless there's a plug-in at the top bunk bed level. It is not a reading light, but bright enough to keep from bumping into furniture during the night. Great for a bathroom night light too.
