Maytag and Whirlpool come with a 6' drain hose, why doesn't GE?

Asked by

October 23, 2011
I need a longer drain hose and don't want to have to buy it separately. Salesman said Maytag and Whirlpool are the only washers that come with a 6' long drain hose. Saleman actually lifted washers out to show us the drain hoses in the back of GE washers compared with the others. Why doesn't GE offer a longer drain hose included in the price like the other manufacturers?

November 11, 2011
After I complete a wash cycle, if I choose to do a quick rinse cycle, the washer does not drain and spin and the clothes are left soaking wet. I had GE service come over and they tried JUST a quick rinse cycle, and the clothes were just damp (as they should be) at the end of the cycle. So the repairman concluded the washer was working fine. But I just did a wash cycle (after which the clothes were just damp), then did a quick rinse cycle, and again the clothes were soaking wet at the end of the quick rinse cycle. Can someone from GE address this and tell me if my washer has something wrong with it? Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for visiting our website. I am sorry you are experiencing this issue with your washer.

The quick rinse should have a high-speed spin. If the previous cycle has run to the end, and you are starting quick rinse as a new cycle this should be checked. If you are in a GE service area, be sure to arrange to have a Factory trained GE technician for the call. You can schedule a service call online at: http://localgeappliancerepair.com/

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

Hi, Cap - this is Cindy from GE and I'll be happy to help you. The lid does not lock once the washer has started. You can raise the lid during the cycle and it will stop the agitation and spin, but it doesn’t pause the cycle – it will continue to count down. But you are able to open the lid while it’s running.

Hello Jean.

This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with your question on the GE 3.6 cu. ft. DOE Top Load Washer model # GTWN4250MWS.

Yes, Liquid or powder HE or High Efficiency detergent deliver superior cleaning performance while saving water and energy. HE detergents are specially formulated for high efficiency washers to provide excellent whitening, stain removal and clothes care.

A low-sudsing formula—allows you to use a full scoop of detergent to get your clothes clean without creating suds you don’t need.

Detergent usage may need to be adjusted for water temperature, water hardness, size and soil level of the load. Avoid using too much detergent in your washer, as it can lead to oversudsing and detergent residue being left on the clothes.

I hope this helps. Enjoy your new washer.

Each time the agitator spins, the entire basket shakes/moves (quite a bit) and it makes a whine noise. The machine is only a couple weeks old. Is the whine noise and the basket shaking/moving normal? Also, I can manually move the basket inside the washer back and forth, side to side quite a bit. My old machine did not do this (only just slightly if at all). Is this normal?

Hello,

This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with your question on the GE 3.6 cu. ft. Top Load Washer model # GTWN4250MWS.

A whining sound does not sound like normal operation. A GE Hyrdrowave washer is designed to operate quieter than a typical washer. It is normal to hear the Motor “ramping (speeding) up” or “coasting (slowing) down” Beginning and end of spin The motor will speed up incrementally during the spin cycle. When the spin is complete, it will coast until it stops or until the lid is raised.

All GE washer tubs move freely within our exclusive balance system. It is a rod and spring floating suspension, designed to withstand extensive out of balance situations without the need for an "out of balance" switch. As a result, the clothes basket can move freely, and this is normal.

I would suggest to take advantage of the warranty to have a service technician evaluate the sound you are hearing. Please see the following link to schedule service.

That is a good question. It will also depend on the water in your area and if you have a water softener. I find it always best to use less HE detergent than mor. I would suggest 3 ounces.

Detergent usage may need to be adjusted for water temperature, water hardness, size and soil level of the load. Avoid using too much detergent in your washer, as it can lead to oversudsing and detergent residue being left on the clothes.

This washer is an ENERGY STAR® qualified HydroWave™ electronic washers with a Fabric Softener Dispenser and Dual-Action Agitator. You may manually select a load size or the automatic PreciseFill option.
in order to get it to fill during the rinse, you must select the fabric softener option.

Washers use less water now than in the past so while you can choose the water level on this model, you won’t get as much water as you may have with your previous washer. Hello Annie,

This is Donna with GE and I am sorry you are experiencing a problem with your GE washer model # GTWN4250MWS.

There is not a Reset button. I would recommend to check and make sure the shipping rod on the bottom right side of the washer was removed. If it is not, then this will cause washer to be vibrate and become unbalanced.

The washer is on a floating suspension system. The balance ring allows smooth operation and prevents the washer from knocking or walking. It allows the washer to go into a full speed spin with a 5 lb. out-of-balance load and the washer remains still.

I would suggest to contact warranty service to have a technician evaluate and diagnose any issues. Please see the link below to schedule service.

Hello,
This is Alison from GE. I am happy to assist you.

I recommend you check the label on your blanket for wash care instructions. Most king size bedding needs to be cleaned professional by a dry cleaner. Most wash baskets are typically too small for the thickness of a blanket or comforter. Although the washer is designed to allow clothing to travel longer in the water to help improve turnover, I feel a blanket will not have room to move.
It will most likely be wrinkled once the cycle ends.

If you do not have a label, I suggest try to contact the manufacturer of the comforter for assistance.

I hope this information is helpful.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Hello,

This is Donna with GE.

The washer must be shipped in an upright position. If unit is shipped lying on it's side, the inner tub will beout of alignment, causing the inner tub to rub against the outer tub.

Top loading full size washers came with a shipping rod located on the lower right side of machine. When installing the unit the rod must be removed for the machine to operate. It states on the tag of the shipping rod to save the rod, just in case you need it for future moves.

Should you need to obtain a new shipping rod, the part number for the shipping rod is wh46x344.
Plese contact Home Depot Parts at 1-866-650-2121.

To prepare the washer for moving/storing/shipping:
1. Unplug power cord.
2. Re-install the shipping rod into the hole located on the right side of washer, as you face it.
3.Turn off the hot and cold water supply to the washer and with a pair of pliers carefully unscrew and remove the hoses from the washer and the faucets.
4. The hoses can be stored inside the washer tub.
5. Remove drain hose from house drain standpipe. Remove the mounting screw that holds the hose attached to the back of washer.
6. Pull drain hose out and store it in tub.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry on the GE Top Load washer model # GTWN4250MW. This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help.

If you hear a sloshing sound when you move the inner tub in a newer GE washer, that is the balance ring. This is an enclosed plastic container partially filled with a salt water solution, it is attached to the inner clothes basket, and allows the basket to spin smoothly should an out of balance situation occur. This is a normal sound.

Should you have any further questions, please let us know.

Enjoy your new washer!
