The tractor mows at a good speed and cut is effected by type of medium you are cutting and the sharpness of the blades. I like the hydrostatic transmission to do the job of mowing at the best speed.

It is an attachment that threads onto the end of a garden hose that then snaps onto a fitting sticking up on the mower deck. Once you have attached the garden hose to the fitting on the mower deck turn on the water, then crank up the mower and engage the blades. The combination of the spinning blades and water is supposed to wash off the grass that sticks to the top of the mower deck. It works pretty good but usually doesn't get all the grass off.

Greetings Bob,

My name is Tom, also known as HD116 both here and at Home depot's How to Community. I am assisting with a few product questions today and saw yours.

This model does have deck wheels, and actually has four of them while many models only have 2.

This is a very nice mower that has gotten great reviews and they have a hard time keeping them in stock in my local store because they sell so quickly.

Thank you for your question and I hope that helps.

Asked by

One of the reasons that I am interested in this model is that the Home Depot specs list snow removal as one of the tasks. Is a snow blade available for this model? If so, from whom? In connection with this, I would also anticipate the need of chains for the rear tires. Is this available as a kit either from Home Depot or directly from Ariens?

ive been all over the internet world and there is no snow blade that directly states that its made for this machine. it sure seems it would have the power to run a blade as long as you added a weight to the back & some chains...but i think they fear the hydrostatic transmission. if you happen to run across a blade for this application- post it !! would surely like to hear!

Sure can!
tried & true- just used it yesterday in Missoula Mt- installed a 14" high craftsman snow plow , sears # 07124441000, model # 24441. put on some 'Husqvarna 954050501 Tractor Wheel Weights, Pair 62-Pound ' ( this tractor is a Husky...) i bought the weights from amazon. installed these (also bought from amazon)" Tire Chains 20X8X8 20X8X10 Snow Throwers / Mowers 2 Link".
i see its been a while since you asked this....so hopefully youre all set by now. if not- well now you have the info. i had a heck of a time figuring out what it would take to make this animal work- since the home depot ad for the 'Ariens 46 in. 22 HP Briggs and Stratton Hydrostatic Front-Engine Riding Mower ' clearly states: "Riding Mower Usage Heavy Hauling & Lawn Maintenance,Mowing,Snow Removal " but after you buy it- the Q and A's & ariens sez- cant be done... Really?? i spent 2 hrs just last nite plowing out my place and a whole cul de sac, for one- its a HOOT and for 2: this setup ROCKS! so if youve already set it up- well then youre havin as much fun as i am, if not- dont hesitate- or itll be summer !

To register new equipment, follow these steps:

To retrieve the Model and Serial numbers from the machine, be sure to pull them off the Model and Serial Number Decal/Tag. Most often these decals are located on the machine's main frame.

There may be other labels/decals that contain other numbers, and not the Model and Serial Numbers. ONLY the Model/Serial Number Decal/Tag lists the Model and Serial Numbers needed for proper identification of your machine.

Locate the Model and Serial Number Decal/Tag on the machine. For help finding a specific Model and Serial Number Decal/Tag, follow this link: How to Identify Model and Serial Numbers.

Both the model and serial numbers will be found on the same decal/tag. Please make note of both numbers. Model Numbers are 6 digits long and begin with the number "9”.

Complete the online Registration Form.
Go to the website www.ariens.com and click on Support then Registration.
