My LG frig also said to use part # ADQ36006101. I finally found it at Home Depot for about $50. The replacement filter Model # is LT700P but it is also part # ADQ36006101. They are the same. Don't know why LG confuses the owners with different numbers. I kept the box it came in so I'll remember in 6 months when I change it again. :)

Hey there Gary, I'm Blake from Home Depot's online community. You are correct in your assumption that the LT700P and ADQ 36006102 are in fact the same filter, and are completely interchangeable.

I hope this helps Gary.

The LT700P filter number is ADQ36006101...What you may find is that the 102 filter's connecting tab is slightly different. You should bring your original filter into Sears to compare the fittings.

No you do not have to use the water filter. What you will need to do though is in place of the water filter, insert the provided blank-off filter. This will disable the replacement sensor on the fridge. It should have come with your fridge. If you don't have one, you can order one from Home Depot, or through the manufacture of your fridge.
Hope this helps.

Take a look at your owner's manual. The filter cover will swing down (press the button first). When it is opened all the way, the old filter or bypass plug will pull out without too much effort. The key is to make sure the filter cover and bypass plug is full opened (swing it down as far as it will go).

Removing the Bypass plug is the same procedure as changing the filter. First ensure that the water is off. Then pull down the cover. You may need to remove or lower the shelf below it to gain enough room to to allow the door to lowered completely. With the cover down completely, pull the plug downward rotating it counterclockwise before you pull it out of it's hole. You may need to push in slightly to break the seal of the o-ring. To install a new filter, reverse the procedure.

Question

What is the filtration medium in this filter and what does this filter remove from potable city tap water?

Asked by
DoodleMom
Youngstown, OH
about Refrigerator Water Filter on
August 27, 2014
We have city water which we recognize is "hard" water. We have installed and maintain a whole house water softener to stop build-up in water lines and faucets. What does this additional filter really do and what is the difference between this LG brand filter and other "compatible" filters I have seen online for a regular price of $29.99 and a sale price of $15.99?

I am not eager to throw away money, but I do not want to damage my new and fairly expensive refrigerator. By the same token, I do not want to cheap out and pay for something that does not work or will ultimately do damage to the fridge or to my family! What the heck kind of "cysts" are in our city tap water?!? I agree with others here...I have other places I can spend $100/year.

Very Frustrated

The LG Refrigerator Water Filter, Model # LT700P, will remove or reduce chlorine, tastes and odors that may be present in your drinking water.
The filter contains carbon, which is its main purifying ingredient. As the water flows contaminants attach to the carbon and separate from the water like a sponge and can absorb and hold other types of impurities and sediments on its surface like a magnet. The filter not only treats the water for odors and contaminants, but can also remove rust and lead from the water. Once the water passes through the filter, it looks clear and tastes great.
Hard water is mostly caused by water trickling or filtering through deposits of calcium and magnesium containing minerals such as limestone, chalk or dolomite, but in Ohio, gypsum (Calcium Sulfate), is extensively used for agricultural uses as a soil conditioner to improve the soil tilth. It is relatively soluble in water and releases Ca 2+ ions and sulfate ions into the soil. Rainwater or distilled water are soft because they do not contain many cations but that rainwater will pick them up as it passes through the soil treated with gypsum which releases the Ca 2+ cations and leads to hard water!
Certain parasites can enter lakes and rivers through sewage and animal waste and one way to get rid of it is to super chlorinate the water! That is why your water has that chlorinated taste and smell and that is where your water filter helps!
I am not familiar enough with other filters on the market to comment on those, but hopefully this helps somewhat!...IFV
