Question

Support Bracket shows from outside of window

Asked by
kclemens
Aloha, Oregon
about White 2-1/2 in. Premium Faux Wood Blind - 72 in. W x 64 in. L on
March 23, 2015
I put up a blind and I like the way it looks from the inside. However, from the outside you can see the bottom of the support brackets.
The window width is 58" and in the instructions it said to use the extra support bracket. I tried to center the bracket on the window, but it got in the way of the cords, causing the cord to bind. so I had to move the brackets, one to each side of center, which causes you to see the brackets from the outside.
Anyway to get around this?

Question

Same plastic gear wheel to pull blinds up/down as they do in the HD store?

Asked by

Do these wider blinds have the same plastic gear wheel to pull blinds up/down as they do in the HD store?
I had to return these wider blinds because the gear simply would not release without the use of a screwdriver!

I have a set of these that are narrower for a small bathroom window and they use a brass gear wheel.

Why the manufacturer chose a cheaper plastic for more expensive blinds is beyond me...

Question

Is the width ordered the same as the actual width?

Asked by
Jake
Joplin, MO
about White 2-1/2 in. Premium Faux Wood Blind - 72 in. W x 64 in. L on
February 7, 2015
When ordering online, is the width ordered the same as the actual width? I ask, because the boxes in store will provide a "width" and an "actual width". For example, blinds may be labeled 34"; however, it will then say (actual width 33 1/2").

I need an actual width of 33 1/2", but I'm afraid to order this, thinking I may get blinds that are actually 33".

Thank you.

For an inside mount, my window is measuring 71.5 inches in length. I'm assuming I need to purchase the 72 inch ones online and have them delivered to my local store. Then, I would have Home Depot cut them to 71.5 in length for me? Is that correct?

Hello Ashley and thank you for your question.

The Home Depot only cuts blinds to width, not height. You would order the inside mount (distance between the left and right casing). The blind is shipped to you ready to install. There are instructions inside the package for shortening the height (by removing extra slats) if desired.

Best wishes on your project.

Hello hiker and thank you for your question.

For inside mounted blinds, be sure to measure between the casings. Plan to purchase 57-1/2 wide blinds for the 57-5/8 and 57-3/4 window widths. The 69-1/2 wide window will need a 69-1/2 inch wide blind. Both sizes are available in the 48, 64, 72 and 84 inch lengths. The installation instructions show how to shorten the blinds once installed (if desired).

Best wishes on your project.

Question

What are other significant differences between the premium 2.5 inch and the regular 2 inch faux wood blinds?

Asked by

Other than slat width (2.5 vs 2 in) and variance depth (3 vs 2.5 in), what are other differences? Looking through the descriptions, the premium 2.5 inch one mentions "upgraded cord control" and "wrap-around valance corner", while the regular 2 inch one doesn't mention these. Does the premium 2.5" operates more smoothly or easily? Does the premium one look better?

Yes, the valence on the premium is much fancier, and to me, more attractive. The 2 inch ones also have a much more obvious wood texture on them, which looked really fake to me. I think that the "premium" 2.5" looked much classier than the 2 inch, and decided to spend the extra $15 each for the premium.

Question

Width of Valance for inside mount. Can it be mounted on outside?

Asked by
tucson
Tucson, AZ
about White 2-1/2 in. Premium Faux Wood Blind - 72 in. W x 64 in. L on
November 28, 2014
Many have asked this question, I'm going to try again. I do not have trim around my window. I'm going to inside mount the blind. Will the valance be long enough to do an outside mount? Can you do an inside mount blind with an outside mount valance? Will it be long enough (or wide enough)? It has three sides, if you have to do an inside mount valance with inside mount where do the two end sides go, the hanging bracket will be there? Do you have to remove the end pieces of the valance?

If the blind is measured 35", what is the measured width of the valance?

Do they come with brackets to attach to wall for an outside mount? Or do they clip on even with outside mounting?

First off, the valance MUST be attached to the head rail for the side returns to work. In other words, if the blinds are going to inside mounted, then the valance will be too.

Anytime a blind is cut or altered, the valance will be slightly wider to hide the mounting brackets. The width is generally about 1/2"-1" wider than the headrail, but this differs from manufacturer to manufacturer.

The other sides, or the returns, are only needed if you decide to outside mount the blinds.

So if the blind is 35 inches wide, then the valance would typically be slightly wider, from 35-1/2 to 36 inches...again depending on who made it.

These brackets, as well as most for slat blinds these days, come with one bracket that can mount on the wall, on the sides or top inside of a window frame.

Basically, choose whether or not you want it to be inside mounted. Even if it was outside mounted, the valance and returns will be measured wider, so it will hide the brackets.

We do not have other brackets for 2.5" faux wood blinds. However, if your blinds will be mounted inside
the window casing, there should be no problem to use the current brackets.
