Question

Wht can I do to keep the sheets and clothes from massive entanglement?

Everything except same-size towels tangles into a Chinese knotted puzzle. Washer has to be monitored about every 8 minutes to untangle laundary. Sheets, levis and tops (separate loads) are a nightmare in this machine! This is driving me crazy! The repair man said that I AM loading properly and not too much or too little. Also, hand wash cycle and delicate cyles are too harsh. This tidal wave system is really a problem. HELP!!! Do I need to actually purchase a different machine????

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry on the GE Profile Harmony washer model # PTWN8050MWW. This is Donna with GE and I am happy to address your concerns.

Tangled, twisted or knotted clothes are usually a result of improper sorting of wash loads. To prevent clothing from knotting and twisting:
* Avoid mixing heavy items with light items.
* Avoid putting too many or too few items in the washer.
* Load clothes around the Infusor first and then continue to layer clothes on top as you load upward. Once you load around the Infusor you can load to the top of the holes in the wash basket.

The HydroWash system uses a patened Infusor and a stainless steel wash basket to provide great clothes care. The Infusor and the basket can lock and function together or unlock to work alone. HydroWash action is very different from conventional agitation. HydroWash gets great wash performance that's gentler by moving concentrated detergent through fabrics.

As wash action begins The Infusor and wash basket lock together and rotate back and forth to thoroughly mix detergent and water and to evenly distribute the clothes in a highly concentrated detergent solution. The arc and speed of this Wash Basket, is adapted to fabric type. Delicate fabrics are gently rotated while heavier fabrics are rotated more vigorously.

Centrifusion - the second type of basket wash action - ensures optimal cleaning. The locked Infusor and basket begin a clockwise spin faster, centrifugal force pulls concentrated cleaning solution through fabrics. This wash action deeply and safely cleans fabrics. After several seconds of clockwise spin, the basket will slow down and stop. The cleaning solution pools back into the wash basket, before the locked basket reverses direction to spin counterclockwise, achieving the same Centrifusion cleaning action. These rotations change direction four times before going to Infusor Wash action.

Following Centrifusion, the basket and Infusor will unlock for Infusor Wash: where the Infusor alone oscillates to evenly distribute the wash load and continue to clean items by moving the detergent solution through the load. The redistribution of fabrics helps ensure that lint and dirt do not become trapped.

If you feel it is not agitating correctly, please take advantage of the warranty and have a technician come out to evalaute. The link below is for scheduling service.

Hello Rosie,

This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with your question on the GE Profile Harmony 4.5 cu. ft. Capacity Top Load Washer model # PTWN8050MWW.

This is a great washer! No, there is not a lint filter that needs to be cleaned. GE designed a new pump with larger holes in the hub under the agitator did a better job of removing lint and preventing clogs in the drain system. The drain system allows water to flow through the basket and out the bottom of the tub pulling lint, hair, and small particles with the water. There is no maintenance required on this system.

I hope this helps. Thank you for considering GE!

Howdy there Marie! I’m Blake from Home Depot’s online community. This washer is a high efficiency unit; it does weigh the load to dispense an appropriate amount of water. In general this machine will use about 75% less water than a washer from 10 years ago. It does however have a fabric softener override which will cause the machine to do a full fill rinse for correct softener dilution. It features an Impeller instead of a full agitator tower to better clean laundry with a lower water level.

I hope this is helpful Marie, if you have any how-to or DIY questions please feel free to hit us up on the community: http://Community.HomeDepot.com

Dear Marie,

Thank you for your interest in the GE Harmony washer. The load is measured by weight, and the Infusor also rotates (or oscillates) back and forth to "measure" resistance on it's surface to determine the load size. This provides Adaptive Water Fill so the Harmony auto-fills with just the right amount of water needed for great wash performance.

Please let us know if we can help with any other questions you have and happy shopping!

Question

Does the water actually get hot?

Asked by
Alicia
about Profile Harmony 4.5 cu. ft. Top Load Washer in White -- CLOSEOUT on
August 22, 2011
I have been hearing that many HE toploading washing machines have one major flaw: even though they all have supposedly hot wash cycles, the machines are programmed to add cold water to the hot cycle so the water temperature actually never goes above 80 to 100 degrees. I need a truly hot water wash for my son's cloth diapers and can't be sitting around waiting to turn my cold water line on and off. Does this machine actually get hot? I mean over 120 degrees for a normal hot wash? Thanks for your help.

Hello,
This is Alison from GE.

Model number PTWN8050MWW does have a feature called "RighTemp" that monitors and regulates wash bath temperatures within 5 degree F of the target temperature for any wash cycle. This accuracy is achieved using a thermistor located beneath the wash basket to monitor incoming water during fill (instead of monitoring water temperature at the inlet valve). The thermistor controls the hot and cold inlet valves to achieve desired wash temperatures.

See the targeted temperature for RighTemp Below:

RighTemp Target Wash Temperatures:
Hot- 120°
Warm- 105°
Cold- 80°
Very Cold- 60°

This model also offers a hydro heater with sanitize option. This option is used to sanitize and kill more than 99% of many bacteria found in home laundry. This is a cycle with an extra heavy soil setting and uses an extra heater to heat water to 140º F.

I hope this information is helpful.

Hello,
This is Alison from GE.

GE does recommend using liquid or powder HE or High Efficiency detergents for the GE Profile Harmony model PTWN8050MWW. You can use regular detergent, however for best wash performance HE is recommended.

Liquid or powder HE or High Efficiency detergent deliver superior cleaning performance while saving water and energy. HE detergents are specially formulated for high efficiency washers (such as GE Profile Harmony) to provide excellent whitening, stain removal and clothes care.

A low-sudsing formula—allows you to use a full scoop of detergent to get your clothes clean without creating suds you don’t need.

Detergent usage may need to be adjusted for water temperature, water hardness, size and soil level of the load. Avoid using too much detergent in your washer, as it can lead to oversudsing and detergent residue being left on the clothes.
Tide HE has been optimized to work best in the low water levels of HE washers like the GE Profile Harmony.
Outstanding whiteness maintenance provided by ingredients that suspend dirt away from clothes in the wash and help prevent dye transfer from one garment to another. This is very important in a low water wash.

Get the care you trust from Woolite, now in a High Efficiency formula. It’s specially designed to work with high efficiency washers that use less water, like the GE Profile Harmony™, without creating unnecessary suds.

I hope this information is helpful.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

You are supposed to use just HE detergent, but in a pinch, or when my husband brings home the wrong stuff, I have used regular detergent, with no problems. I would not make that a habit, however, just in case it causes problems over the long haul.

you can use regular detergent but it is recommended that HE be used. That is mainly for the suds. If you do use Reg please use only half as much as you did in an old washer.

GE Profile washer and some others have internal hot water heaters. Are these just to get the water temp up to a very hot temp for maximum washing, or are they sufficient for placement in a room where no hot water is available, yet desired for washing?

Hello Jacqueline,

This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to answer your question.

These internal hot water heaters are designed to get the water temp up to a very hot temp during the Sanitize cycle. Our washers must be connected to a hot water line in order to achieve a hot-water wash or to use the Sanitize cycle. Assuming the hot water coming into the washer is 120 degrees, the internal heater will gradually boost the wash water to 160 F degrees over the course of the wash cycle.

Thank you for your interest in our GE washers. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
