Hi, this is Sheree from GE and I will be glad to assist you with your question on model, GE 1.6 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave Oven in Stainless Steel Model # JES1656SRSS. We recommend the front edge of the microwave should sit at least 3" or more back on the countertop to avoid accidental tipping of the appliance. Then about 3" should be left on both sides, 3" at the top & 1" in the rear (this allows a good circulation for the intake & discharge air vents). I hope this helps! Thanks for your interest in GE!

Hello,

This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to answer your question.

The Cooking Complete Reminder feature, on this microwave model # JES1656SRSS, reminds you that your cooking cycle has finished. The "cooking complete reminder" is a beep that occurs once every minute after the normal cooking cycle has ended.

The cooking complete reminder:

~ Begins one minute after the 'cooking complete signal'.
~ Is different from the 'cooking complete signal' which consists of four beeps heard only once directly at the end of the cooking cycle.
~ Is an audible aid when recipes call for standing time after cooking. There is no need to set the kitchen timer. Just keep track of the beeps (example: 5 beeps = 5 minutes).
~ In order to terminate "cooking complete reminder", touch clear/off or open the door.

Thank you for your interest in this GE microwave. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Liz,

This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with your question on the GE 1.6 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave Oven model # JES1656SRSS.

This microwave is designed for countertop use. There is not a built-in trim kit available as an installation option for this model. if you do sit this into a cabinmet, GE recommends 3" around all sides, top and back for air clearance.

I would recommend to consider model JEB1860SMSS that requires built-in trim kit 27" JX2027SMSS
The cabinet cut-out required for the trim is below. It is available with a 30" trim kit also.

Height: 16-3/4 ± 1/16
Width: 25-1/2 ± 1/8
Depth: 22" MIN. receptacle in cabinet 19-1/2" MIN. receptacle outside cabinet

I hope this helps. Thank you for considering GE!

Hello MD,

Thank you for your question on the GE Countertop Microwave in Stainless Steel model # JES1656SRSS.

This microwave is not designed to be built into a cabinet. Because there us not a built-in kit as an option, it is not UL approved to be installed this way.

GE would recommend to allow 3" around all sides, top and back.

The microwave dimensions are following.

Overall Height: 12.8125"
Overall Width: 21.75"
Overall Depth: 17.6875"

Thank you for your interest in the microwave model JES1665SRSS.

The whole front panel is one shade of Stainless Steel. The top and bottom portion have slight angle back toward rear and creates different type of reflections depending on what angle you are looking at or what angle light is coming from. This is hard to tell from photograph.

The specs say the Assembled Depth is 21.75" and my built in cabinet is only 17.5" deep. So I'm trying to determine if the distance between the back of the microwave to the front legs will still allow it to fit with the front part sticking out. Also need to take into account the approx 2" needed for the plug in the back. Thanks.

This is Sheree from GE and I will be glad to assist you. I’m sorry but Home Depot does not sell any GE models on their website that fit in these dimensions. The model, JES1656SRSS, is not a built in model and would not work in your space. Hello Mickey,

This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to answer your question.

This microwave model JES1656SRSS has the following dimensions:

Overall Depth: 17-11/16"
Overall Height: 12-13/16"
Overall Width: 21-3/4"

Please note that as with all GE countertop microwaves, including this model, it is recommended that an air clearance of about 3" should be left on both sides of the microwave, 3" at the top, and 1" in the rear. This allows a good circulation for the intake and discharge air vents.

This new model JES1656SRSS is not the same size as your current model JES831. This new model is larger in depth, height, and width and therefore, will not fit in the same cabinet opening.

You may want to consider the GE model number JES0738DPWW which is smaller than the JES831. Here are the dimensions:

Overall Depth: 13-1/2"
Overall Height: 10-7/8"
Overall Width: 18-1/4"

Thank you for your interest in our GE microwaves. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello David - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.

The JES1656SRSS is a very nice model. However, it does not offer a built-in trim kit option. A model that is similar in size that can be built-in with a trim kit is the Model #PEM31. Otherwise, if you would like to place the microwave in a cabinet, the following air clearances are recommended: about 3" should be left on both sides, 3" at the top and 1" in the rear.

I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!
