1.28 gpf equals about 5 quarts of water used with each flush. 1.59 gpf is over a gallon and half of water. More water used for each flush does not necessarily to a better flush. Such factors as closet bend variances (extreme curve vs. gentle curve) and coefficient of friction on the curve surface (rough vs. smooth finish) are more important. But all other things being equal, you'll be saving a quart of water with every flush. Imagine, a family of four that uses the toilet once per day will be saving 1460 gallons per year. So drink plenty of fluids and make roughage a regular part of your diet and you will have saved enough water to fill your swimming pool.

1.28 gallons per flush. Or 1.59 gallons per flush. Some models do have dual flush option. You can push one button for less water or a different button for more water. Or for those without different buttons, you can hold the handle down longer for more water and quicker for less water. But, if it doesn't say "dual flush", I would think it is the flush volume of different models.

GPF = Gallons Per Flush. So, if the description lists two numbers it is either adjustable within the range or it is a dual-flush (number 1 or number 2). However, the Cadet Flowise that I bought only lists 1.28 GPF on the box.

The range of Gallons Per Flush (gpm) is adjustable but setting the Refill valve to it's highest position to get the largest amount of water (1.59) in each flush and if the Refill valve is set in it's lowest position you should get the lowest amount of water (1.28) in each flush. The adjustment is done on the Refill valve in the tank.

Yes. It's about 17 1/2 inches to the seat from the floor. Most toilets are about 14 or 15 inches. I'm still getting used the extra 2 1/2 inches. I got it more for the elongation. It would be good for someone who can't get up or down from lower distances. Plus, you could always add more height if you need it with a "handicap seat". But, I think too high and you don't feel comfortable going number 2. Hoped this helped you.

Question

I purchased 2 elongated bowl toilets. One went in great, the other one leaked from the tank/bowl connection around the right side bolt and a little from the tank to bowl gasket. Returned tank for exhcange. Local Home Depot only had the Standard bowl version and gave me the tank from that one. It doesn't leak, but the lid I have seems to have a little more play than it did on the leaking tank. Do they use different sized tanks? Thanks

Based on size and bolt pattern, they are the same tanks. I think the only one that can answer that one positively is the company themselves though. You might want to send American Standard an email from their website or call (1-800-442-1902) to make sure they are using the same part # for both toilets.

The package I got did not include a new water supply line. If your old one is in good condition, you could re-use it, but, for a few extra dollars, I think a new supply line is good insurance against a potentially disastrous leak. As for the flange, it is the round metal or plastic ring around the drain pipe in the floor that holds the bolts that hold the bowl down to the floor. Replacing it is a pretty major plumbing job, but, unless it's broken or rusted out to the point where it won't hold the bolts anymore, you don't need to replace it.

I'd buy a replacement fill valve and replace it. Fluidmaster makes one available at the Depot for about $8. There's videos on Youtube if you need them. Another problem it could be, but honestly doesn't sound like it, is that your stopper is leaking allowing water to escape into the bowl. When the water level goes down, your fill valve will run to fill it back up to it's regular level. From what you said though, it's probably just the fill valve which is an easy fix and cheap enough where I'd just replace it and be done with it. There's usually a height adjustment on them, but that wouldn't explain why it periodically runs...it should still shut off and stay shut off when full.

An effective flush requires that the the tank be full when the flush lever is operated. Is the flapper valve closing completely after the first flush? If not, is there an obstruction preventing it from closing? Do you have good water flow through the fill valve, once the tank level falls? If your flow is slow, it may take maybe minute to refill the tank. Make sure your water supply shutoff valve is completely open.

Unless you have a confined area around toilet, the only measurement you need to check is the rough in size. To do this, measure from the toilet mounting bolts on the floor to the wall behind the toilet. In modern houses it will probably be 12 inches. This toilet is a 12 inch rough in size but will be an inch or so from the back wall when installed. I believe there is a 14 inch rough in size available too.

Suggest you download the spec sheet for this unit from the link on the Home Depot Quick View page for all the the dimensions. That sheet shows the rear edge of the base as 8-3/8" behind the center of bolt holes. And the max width of the oval base is 9-3/8". So I'd SWAG a qualified No.

Yes, and it also has a polymer coating that is very slick and lets normal flush flow clear off any smears.

The Am Std Cadet 3 Right Height toilet only comes in one bowl height: 16.5" plus another inch for the seat. It's higher than most common products, but I'm sure that there are others even taller.
