Hello, this is Lisa from GE. I am happy to help. This unit is a window unit, and not recommended for wall installation. It is possible to cut a hole in a wall and install the window air conditioner in this opening. However, we do not recommend installing the window air conditioner through a wall. Here are some concerns related to this.
1. There is not a mounting kit or accessory offered to use with the AEL10AQ to secure it into the opening in the wall or help seal out water, air drafts, etcetera. (Since it is not intended to be built into a wall, we have no installation instructions to offer to help with installing it this way.)
2. The model does not have a slide out chassis. This means you cannot pull out the "guts" of the unit to screw or affix the case into the hole in the wall and then slide the "guts"' back in.
3. Window air conditioners have louvers on the sides of the case (models specifically designed as built-in models do not have louvers on the sides of the case). The louvers need to be exposed for proper air circulation. Being in a wall opening, if the louvers are covered, moisture and heat will possibly affect the wall as well as the performance of the unit. The depth to the louvers on the case on the AEL10AQ is 9". The wall should be no more than 9" thick to allow the louvers to be exposed.
4. After many years pass and the unit needs to be replaced, you may not be able to obtain the same size since the unit is not a standard-sized, specific built-in model. Then, you have an opening in the wall without a model to fit into the opening.
Thanks for the question!
