I just bought this flooring and the rep at Home Depot said to put down air guard before install and it needed no glue or nails. Is this correct? On a split level house, upstairs is wood base layer and downstairs concrete.

This question depends on a couple of factors, namely, the weight of the dog and the edge of its nails. The heavier a dog is, the more pressure that their feet/nails can generate. This, coupled with the edge of the nail produces the scratch potential of the dog. If its nails are squared off or jagged, the scratch potential is significantly increased. If they are rounded/oval, the scratch potential is significantly reduced.

Hey there,

This is Mr. Jay with the How-To Community. Bamboo is a relatively durable hardwood, but there are different styles that bamboo comes in. Styles like the one here and other carbonized styles actually rate lower than red oak on the hardiness scale. Strand Woven styles like the one I linked below are nearly 2x as strong and comparable to red mahogany as far as hardiness. This will help protect against any damage renters could make. Both however are still sensitive to scratches, so make sure your dog's nails are clipped regularly.

Hope this helps answer your question!~ = )

No glue necessary for this flooring. Planks interlock and we used a higher grade underlay which minimized ability to shift. Nailed just the end pieces to ensure no shifting, before finishing with the baseboard that also held the floor in place.

This solid hardwood would need to have 15lb roofing felt paper in between your wood subfloor and the solid bamboo flooring. If you are working with concrete, the flooring adhesive would be the only thing between the concrete and the solid bamboo.

This can be done, but you must choose a urethane-based flooring adhesive that is designed for the flooring type and the subfloor type that you have. If the installation method fails, we will not warranty it, since our installation instructions will not include directions of a glue-down on wood.

The product description says you can nail OR glue, so I would say yes. Most bamboo flooring can be done either way, so I don't think you should have any trouble. I installed this flooring as a bar counter and used only heavy duty construction adhesive to attach to a plywood sub panel, and let me tell you, it's going nowhere.

Use 18 staples with an 18 ga nailer. Remember not all nailers are the same and not all can use all sizes. Ask your tool guy these types of questions.

You will need a power nailer to accommodate a 3/8" product. We recommend 18-20 gauge nail/cleat that is 1” to 1 ½” in length. When face nailing the starting and ending row, use a 6d casing or finish nails every 10”-12” (due to the hardness of this product pre-drilling hole is recommended)
When blind nailing through the tongue, a minimum of two fasteners per plank is required. First fastener should be located near the ends (between 1” and 3” from ends). then every 6”-8”

Thank you for your inquiry! We do not suggest you use the Hoover FloorMate® Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner to clean bamboo flooring. That particular cleaning system uses water and special vacuum technology to ensure your floor is spotless, and bamboo flooring, especially solid bamboo flooring swells with moisture and frequent spills. It is best to consult a Flooring Specialist at your nearest Home Depot and ask which products to use for cleaning your solid bamboo floors. Again, bamboo flooring may swell with moisture. Thank you for choosing The Home Depot!
