Hello Pauline,

Thank you for your inquiry on the GE 3.9 cu. ft. stainless steel capacity washer model # GHWN4250DWW.

This washer is Energy Star qualified which meets or exceeds federal guidelines for energy efficiency and provides year-round energy and money savings.

GE recommends the use of HE or high Efficiency detergents in all energy Star rated washers. HE detergents are specially formulated for high efficiency washers. The low-sudsing formula allows you to use a full scoop of detergent to get your clothes clean without creating suds you don’t need.

I hope this is helpful!

Hello,
Thanks for your inquiry. This is Alison at GE. I am happy to assist you.

The GHWN4250DWW has a hydrowave wash system, the GTWN4250WS does not.

The GHWN4250DWW offers Power Rinse, Auto Soak, Extra Rinse and a Basket Clean cycle the GTWN4250DWS does not offer these cycles.

Model GTWN4250DWS offers a prewash cycle and The GHWN4250 does not.

GHWN4250DWW offers a rain shower system. The rain shower system save energy and money. Rather than a washtub full of water, every load of laundry gets three "showers", rinsing clothes clean while minimizing water usage. The RainShower rinse system uses less water, providing rinse performance similar to a high-efficiency washer.

I hope this information is helpful.

Please let us know if you have any further questions. We are always glad to help.

Hello Susielou,

This is Donna with GE. Thank you for your inquiry on the GE washer model GHWN4250DWW.

Yes, the washer is belt driven. This washer offers the Hydrowave Wash System. The agitator on the HydroWave wash system makes a longer 360 degrees stroke and operates in both directions. This allows the clothing to travel longer in the water instead of short aggressive strokes. The longer travel helps to improve the turnover of clothing and gentle cleaning helps prevent fabric wear and color fading. The smoothness of the HydroWave wash system is also much quieter.

It also offeers PreciseFill with the option of 5 water level selections.

Thank you for considering GE!

Model GTWN4250WS and GTWN4250DWS are the same model. The d listed in the second number is he complete manufacturing nomenclature on the rating tag.

There is also a model GHWN4250DWW. The only difference between this model and GTWN4250 is the cubic feet.

GTWN4250: 3.6 cubic ft.
GHWN4250: 3.9 cubic ft.

The two models were measured with different systems. All washers will now be measured and communicated using only the latest August 2010 DOE capacity standard. The IEC measurement standard will no longer be used after 4/30/11.

MEF: 2.0

Hello Texas,

This is Donna with GE and I am happy to assist you. Unfortunately there is not one chart available with the information you are requesting.

The clutchless Siemen's Variable Speed Motor has and electronic controller giving it the flexibility of 5 wash speeds and 7 spin speeds for a total of up to 35 wash/spin combinations.

5 Different Wash Speeds:
155 spm - Heavy or bulky clothes & towels
105 spm - Easy care & casual khakis
80 spm - Shirts & blouses
30 spm - Delicates & lingerie
30 spm pulsed - Hand washables & sweaters
(spm = strokes per minute)
7 Different Spin Speeds:
800 rpm - Heavy duty cottons
700 rpm - Heavy or bulky clothes
630 rpm - Cotton knit shirts
550 rpm - Easy care
450 rpm - Shirts & blouses
350 rpm - Delicates & hand washables
150 rpm - Sweaters & dry flat items
(rpm = revolutions per minute)

Cycle times will vary greatly depending on what options are selected. They can range from 18 minutes to 82 minutes. For example, Cottons Heavy with no options is 50 minutes. With The Fabric Softener and Extra Rinseit is 70 minutes.

I hope this is helpful. Should you have any addtional questions, please let us know.

How does the Pre-Wash cycle work?

Asked by

May 12, 2014
On GE Answers it states that the Pre-Wash cycle is approximately 64 minutes (& does not include pauses, fill times, pump out times & with no options selected). This seems like a lot of time for just a quick pre-wash before laundering as usual. Or does this amount of time include some sort of wash cycle that follows automatically? If it does, how does the washer know what wash cycle to automatically advance to, i.e. Jeans or Towels/Sheets or Colours Light, etc.?

Hello Sandyland - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.

The Prewash can be used to remove surface dirt on heavily soiled items. It is a separate cycle, so it stops when it is complete. The cycle times are approximate. The prewash cycle will use approximately 3 minutes of agitation then 12-24 minutes of soaking followed by a 3 minutes of wash. It then will spin for about 3.5 minutes, rinse, then spin a final time for about 6 minutes.

I hope this helps! Thank you for checking with us!

Question

Auto Soak

Asked by
Sandyland
about 3.9 cu. ft. DOE Top Load Washer in White, ENERGY STAR on
May 12, 2014
I've seen this information on GE Answers regarding Auto Soak:
"When you select Auto Soak cycle, it will agitate for four minutes after filling to the level selected, then stop and soak. Every 15 minutes, the washer will agitate for four minutes to help circulate the clothes and detergent. At the end of the soak time the timer will automatically advance to either the pre-wash or Heavy wash cycle. There is no need to make another trip to the washer to advance or reset the controls."
My questions are 1)how long is the Auto Soak cycle, how many "Every 15 minutes..." cycles does it go through before it automatically advances to the wash cycles? 2) It says it advances to either Pre-Wash or Heavy Wash. What to do you if you don't want either of those cycles & would for example prefer Whites Regular...etc.? 3) How about if you don't want it to advance right away to a wash cycle at all after Auto Soak? Sometimes I like to soak certain things for a couple of hours or overnight & wash them when I'm ready.

Hello Sandyland - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.

The AutoSoak feature on this washer will begin the cycle with a brief agitation and then an approximate 15 minute soak before moving through the rest of the cycle that you have selected. If you wish to soak an item longer without using the AutoSoak feature, you can fill the washer, and then press the "Stop/Pause" button. However, keep in mind that if the machine is paused for more than 24 hours, the cycle will be cancelled and the water will drain out. Raising the lid will stop agitation and spin action, but it will not pause the cycle.

I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!
