I'd recommend a bag of thin-set mortar that would be mixed with water. This is better than any pre-mixed adhesives, since the bagged mortars dry much faster.
Since this is a white tile, use white mortar since grey colors could show up worse if any were leftover.
In terms of prep work, just make sure the existing subfloor is clean, level, and secure before installation of your tiles.
Any vinyl or loose pieces of flooring must first be removed, as the tiles need to be bonded directly to the subfloor.
