The manual says not to wash large laundry items such as bedding. It also says not to wash any throw rugs or doormats because the sand will accumulate inside the washer which could result in no draining. It also says not to wash woolen bedding, rain covers, fishing vests, ski pants, sleeping bags, diaper covers, sweat suits and motorized vehicle covers.

The WA422PRHDWR is available in white only. Models that are available in Samsung's Onyx (similar to charcoal) are the WF455ARGSGR and WF457ARGSGR HE Front Load Washers. If you prefer to stay with the HE Top Load design, you may want to consider the WA50F9A8DSP or WA456DRHDSU, both of which are available in Samsung's Stainless Platinum color. While Platinum is not as dark as charcoal, it is in the "gray" family and is the closest option available.

The washer has a prominent label that warns against it. In the manual it clarifies:
Do not wash, spin, or dry water-proof seats, mats, or clothing*.
- Do not wash thick, hard mats even if the washer mark is on the care label.
This may result in injury or damage to the washer, walls, floor, or clothing due to
abnormal vibrations.
* Items not to wash: Woolen bedding, rain covers, fishing vests, ski pants, sleeping bags,
diaper covers, sweat suits, and bicycle, motor cycle, car covers, etc.

Elsewhere in the manual it also recommends against washing shoes for similar reasons. And it warns that sand may accumulate from washing throw rugs or doormats, which could affect draining.

I have washed water repellent soft shell clothing in this machine with mixed results. The items are cleaner afterwards (e.g. workout odors removed) but such fabrics usually end up with streaks of lint on them after the wash/rinse/spin cycle.

The booklet states that you do not want to install this where water may freeze because the washer will always retain some water in its water valve, pump and hose areas. Frozen water can damage the belts, the pump, hoses and other components.

Question

Drain Height Requirements

Asked by
vballfam
Denver, CO
about 4.2 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Top Load Washer in White, ENERGY STAR on
May 7, 2013
We noticed a comment from a reviewer stating the the specs recommend that the drain height be 39 inches which is confirmed in the user guides as well. "The recommended height of the standpipe is 39 in / 99 cm. "

We are seriously considering this washer, but our drain height is only 35 inches approximately. We currently have the Maytag Neptune that is a little taller (44.75 compared to 43.9 for the Samsung). It has worked fine for 3 years (until the unit broke of course).

Do you really need 39 inches for the drain height? What would be the concerns with having only 35 inches?

The installation information in the booklet that comes with the washer states the standpipe(drain) must not be shorter than 39 inches (99 cm) and no longer than 96 inches (245 cm). That said, mine is only 36 inches tall and I haven't had any problems with draining on this washer. Did have a problem on my old washer, but it was because the line was damaged in the ground and had to be replaced.

Thanks for the question. The WA422PRHDWR features Samsung's signature Vibration Reduction Technology (VRT) which helps to significantly reduce noise and vibration, even upstairs, and even at high spin speeds. For best performance, be sure the washer is installed and leveled correctly on a stable surface.

Thanks for the question. The 4.2 cubic foot WA422PRHDWR can fit the equivalent of 29.5 standard (24" x 44") bath towels. While this and other models do feature a Heavy Duty preset cycle which automatically selects the Hot water, High spin speed and Heavy Soil level settings, I would suggest checking the garment care instructions on the work clothes to ensure the optimal temperature settings are being used. There is also a Pre-soak option which enables you to soak the heavily soiled garments in the appropriate detergent or stain removers for a bit longer, prior to the regular cycle starting.

If the garments can withstand high heat, you may want to consider the upgraded WA50F9A8DSW model with a built-in hot water heater enabling the Sanitize cycle, which can be helpful in getting stains out of some items; it also eliminates 99.99% of bacteria. In addition to the internal heater and Sanitize cycle, this model also has a larger 5.0 cubic foot capacity, AquaJet for improved cleaning performance, a stainless steel pulsator, higher spin speed and Smart Care - an automatic error-monitoring system that detects and diagnoses problems at an early stage and provides quick and easy solutions. Like the WA422, the WA50F9A8DSW has a Direct Drive motor for power, durability and efficiency.

I've included a link to this alternative model for easy reference.

Work clothes can be a hassle. Try running a smaller load in a machine that will wash a large load to give the clothes a better chance to be washed in the deeper water. Should do better for you to do an extra load every now and then, and have cleaner clothes to wear to work to get them dirty again!

That top, like your car windhield or your TV screen, can under the most extreme circumstances be broken. If you are inclined to drop something heavy enough to brake the "glass" top, perhaps you should buy a metal topped or front loading washer.

No, there is no central agitator. Instead it uses high-speed jets of water and spinning to move clothes around. This is a good thing, as it is gentler on clothes than an agitator would be. It also leaves more room for larger loads--especially when cleaning bulky items like comforters.

I've attached a picture I took to show the drum height, but you can see that there's no agitator sticking up either.
