My desk in in excess of 50 years old so when one of the pulls broke I needed to find replacements that would fit with the style and not ruin the aged look.

Never rent a heavy machine again. Hoover SteamVac SpinScrub rotating brushes groom carpet fibers from all sides to lift away dirt and grime, so you can deep clean carpets and upholstery any time you need to. The Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner is a full-size extractor with SpinScrub technology to scrub carpet fibers on all sides to gently loosen dirt. It features heated cleaning, removable rotating brushes, a 2-tank system and a fingertip-clean surge function for both spot removal and heavy traffic areas.

As a fully disabled senior, with a back that screams when using a vac, this one made the job far easier than when I use my very expensive Kirby.
Pros: Easy to Use, Performs Well, Good Size & Lightweight, Easy to Empty Filter

I just have area rugs that I like to clean. Would the hard wood floor be damaged by using this machine?

          Answer:
No problem. I use mine on area rugs. The only thing to remember is to always pull backwards if there is fringe (otherwise this gets badly tangled - history speaking here). As for the hardwood floor, I've used it on those too (and super great for cleaning tile, mine are porcelain) just make sure you dry off the wood immediately. You could always move the area rug to a non-porus service before cleaning.
